Re: New 180GO! Team Kites
I vote these

Re: New 180GO! Team Kites
after some serious thought...I would fly any kite you allow me the privilage to fly.
But really, the "Striped" ones (as in Isaac's post) would have a dynamic look in the sky.

I still vote these, but I think I'm going to be outnumbered. My final argument -- go back and watch the asymmetrical kites animation a few pages back. The 180's look really cool when the two halves of the kite are different, turning is like doing a do-si-do with yourself!

Here's Rose's choice animated:

Re: New 180GO! Team Kites
You know, I wonder how the kite would fly if we vented the striped kites by putting the vents in place of the white triangles.
It would keep a similar look on the vented kites.
I believe that would be more venting than the standard kite. Also, the trailing edges would be mostly vent. That's the part that's used for control, but that might be OK to slow that down.
Thoughts on this Tom?
Otherwise for the vented kites, I think I would go with the solid kite from the first page of this thread, and a standard vertical venting pattern.
Vents tend to look black in the sky, which is why I'm thinking about it.

I like the asymmetry as well. The striping on both sides dilutes the boldness of color.
Re: New 180GO! Team Kites
They all look good but I like the ones in post #80 or the all red with black center and the black with red center. I think the more of one color you have in the kite the more contrast the kites will have, that will give the crowd a better picture of the moves we are doing.

Re: New 180GO! Team Kites
ok, here's a thought (i still get some now & then).....
regardless of the final sail design(s), what if "we" (meaning the expert kite makers/sewers of IKE) add custom vent panels (triangles, circles) to the sails? The sails would still be the factory SLE panels but perhaps the venting could give it a bit more of a custom look.
Is something like this possible without sacrificing durability over the life of the sails? Can the venting be painted white for the areas in the "white" panels? Or should I just put the cap back on the glue?

I'm not usually into the asym thing but I like these. Changing my vote.

Dialog! I love it! Changing your mind is good, it's all part of the process.
OK, how about the asymmetrical in post #89 (above) for the standard sails.
But for the vented sails we use one of the more solid sails. The symmetric design works better with vented because the vents are symmetrical.
I like David's idea of paint. Mikey, are you reading these posts? You've painted revs. Can we paint the black mesh red?
I can't draw the vented kites right now, so you'll have to imagine one of these with the standard vertical vents.
Whatcha think?

The moustache-y one on the right might look good with the vents adding to the design.

Re: New 180GO! Team Kites
oh yeah: Ben said he'll do red centers and even said he'll screen print 180GO! on there next to the Rev logo.

Since the venting will be highly biased to the outside of the vertical rods, the handling will be much different. My guess is that it'll be very mushy and you'll not be happy with its response.
Modify one of your really old kites to create a prototype with that type of venting.
Cheers,
Tom
Re: New 180GO! Team Kites
That was my thinking too.

That it would be too mushy or that you'd need to build a prototype? Or both?
Some place I remember seeing an SLE kite where one of the triangles was screened ... thought it was a Rev manufactured kite. Can you remember anything along those lines?
Cheers,
Tom
Re: New 180GO! Team Kites
Both!
I don't have an old kite with the right pattern. I'd have to use a team kite. Hmmmm, what color do I destroy.....
Just kidding.
If we use a solid color for venting we can use standard vent patterns.
I don't remember seeing a triangle screen on manufacturered kite.

Hmmm ... looks like an advanced set ...

I like it. It makes a color statement.
