Sharing I.K.E. Photos

Postby Jeff » Sat, Sep 08 2007, 12:36 AM

I know that we have online albums available here through the forum, but even before joining IKE I've been using other places to host photos to share with family and friends. I only just recently signed on and started looking around the photo sharing service, Flickr, and I like the way it works. It's a good way to collect and organize photos by topic, event, location, or whatever. On the plus side for the forum, it doesn't use up the bandwidth here.

It's also a possible way to get more attention. I posted my photos of the recent festival, and have already had other people see and comment on my shots while browsing or searching. And you can often find photos from random, anonymous people at the same fests you were at, if they tagged their photos appropriately. It's pretty cool.

Anyway, if anybody would like to try and use Flickr for photo sharing, just tag your photos with appropriate keywords like kite, festival, IKE, etc. You can also assign them to a location on the map.

I've also created a group called Illinois Kite Enthusiasts that can serve as a photo pool for shots related to the club and our activities. If you have a Flickr account, why not join it? You can add any of your shots to the IKE pool.

Edit:
Oh, and there's several other kite related groups you can join...
http://www.flickr.com/groups/428350@N23/ for giant kites,
http://www.flickr.com/groups/419653@N21/ for kite arches,
http://www.flickr.com/groups/500942@N23/ for the Kites Over Lake Michigan 2007 pool,
http://www.flickr.com/groups/kiteflying/ for Kites and Kite flying.... and much more...
Keep calm, and park it in the pocket

Sign into Flickr, and then go to the group page:
http://www.flickr.com/groups/ike/

Join the group, and then you will be able to send any of your photos to the photo pool of any group you belong to.

And, wear some floaties.

We like the "flickr" site as well and here are two links you may want to check out. The first one is Dan Brinnehl's site and the second is John Cosby's site. Some of you met John and Elaine Cosby (Pegasus) at Mots this past weekend. For those of you who did not, John and Elaine Cosby lived in Kalamazoo, Mi for many years and organized the sport kite competition, Michigan Kitefest. They now reside in Puerto Rico. John shoots underwater, on solid ground and KAPs! Enjoy!

Holy crap... those are stunning... I saw how hard Dan was working to maneuver his lifter into position on both days... I am more than impressed!

I think Dan needs to have a KAP forum thread over here.... hint hint... :-D

Thanks everyone! If there is enough interest in a KAP thread I will be happy to add my 2 cents.

So... who's KAPing in our area? Chime in and be heard. Maybe we can have a local get-together at a KAP friendly site?!?

Thanks,
Dan

All I know is that seeing pictures like you took should peak some interest here... they were absolutely beautiful... and I watched how hard you were working to get them... that was some serious kiting skill to maneuver your lifter around to get some of those excellent shots..

Later today, I'll make sure there is a forum in here for KAPing and we'll see what comes of it...

Thanks for the shots!

Dan,

I am doing a small amount of KAP, I have built Brook's Autokap rig and his basic rig. Taken
a few images, just never seem to find the time to do as much as I want to.

Al,
You are in the perfect KAP situation! You have a KAP rig and the perfect KAP subject. Good times!
However, it would be a bit of a handful to attempt to KAP and take care of that big sea-beast at the same time. :)

We have some aerial photography of our '07 NABX buggy event. These are taken by a high res camera from a helicopter, not a kite but they turned out pretty kewl. It was morning time and unfortunately the wind was nearly non existant so not much kiting in the air but it made for a great group shot. The photo's have been compressed 30% from their original size to help conserve server space and download time.

Here is the link:

I've often though about doing some KAP. I'd like to be able to do it while traveling, so it would have to be as portable as possible.
