Mike. I wish you all luck for the best of luck for the up coming festivities. Let the fun begin. Just remember, dance like nobodies watching.

I will check out the hotels and see what it's available.

Mike, now I've never seen you dance . . . but I think that kid has had some practice time with that video. It's like flying Revs - you just need a little more practice, and you too can dance as well as that kid. ;)

DWTS may be in your future.

P.S. - I do like Hilton Garden Inns (or Hampton Inns). However, I might just commute . . . .

ETA = Elvis Tribute Artist, as apparently, Elvis impersonators prefer to be called. Elvis was every where in the hotel that weekend. It was pretty fun.

I just noticed some possible confusion for anyone who didn't attend this event last year. The Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore and the Indiana Dunes State Park are different. In addition, the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore has an East Unit and a West Unit. Between the two units, there are at least five different beaches spread out along a 15 miles of shoreline.

Perhaps it would be wise if we give a more specific idea of exactly where this event will take place.

If it helps, refer to the map here: http://www.nps.gov/indu/planyourvisit/i ... kmap_1.jpg

It is the Indiana dunes national lakeshore. If you take 49 North, it runs right into the park. It is a really nice family friendly beach, with some nice, if a bit strenuous, nearby hiking. So feel free to bring the whole family.

Let's see if this works.
Here is a link to google maps, the marker is where we will be parking.
http://www.google.com/mapmaker?ll=41.65 ... 7389940264
It doesn't show my marker but the parking lot is right in the middle of the page by the lake. By where the muddy looking stream goes into the lake. Up close the stream looks much cleaner by the way.

You can also click on the Maps link at the top of this page. We'll be flying at the same place as last year's retreat.

I really hate to belabor the point but I think it's best for all first-time visitors if we're very clear about the correct name of the location.

Based on all you've written above, I'm fairly certain you're describing Indiana Dunes State Park. Although the state park is nestled in the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore (in fact, you drive through part of the National Lakeshore to get to the State Park), the state park is not technically part of the National Lakeshore.

Some of the confusion comes from Google Maps, which makes the beach appear to be part of the National Lakeshore until you zoom in pretty far. Then, the state park name finally shows up.

I believe if you refer to the map at http://www.nps.gov/indu/planyourvisit/images/INDU_parkmap_1.jpg (which comes from the National Park Service), you'll see that State Road 49 passes through a part of the National Lakeshore but by the time you get to the beach, you're in the state park. On this map, the National Lakeshore is depicted with a green background and the state park is depicted in brown.

The state park brochure at http://www.in.gov/dnr/parklake/files/dunes_trail.pdf also includes a map that makes it pretty clear that the beach you're describing is within the boundaries of the state park.

Unless I'm misinterpreting your descriptions of the location, I believe it will be easiest for newcomers to find if we henceforth refer to it as Indiana Dunes State Park.

Thanks for clarifying this, you are correct.
If you click on the map link at the top of this page, you can also see the exact location.
Also, if anyone wants my cell phone number, just send me a PM or email and I'll share it with you. That way you can call if you have difficulties finding us.

Be very careful what you wish for. Last year we were blown off the beach the first day and the 2nd was a vented day; which I will take in a heart beat.

To be specific about the location this is the address:

Indiana Dunes State Park
1600 N 25 E
Chesterton, IN 46304
