I'm looking for someone to ride and room with who can pick me up in Schaumburg.

Hello everyone,

I've been reading this string w/interest as this event last year really confirmed my addiction. I am 80% sure of making just the Sept 29th for the day (family committments).

If so, Mark, we can drive out for the day. Meanwhile I was in Santiago del Estero, Argentina last week and wore my IKE shirt flying on the banks of the Misky Mayu, AKA, Rio Dulce, AKA, Sweet River. Missing is Adventure Dog who forgot to get a passport in time.

Wow, great photos. Maybe we should start a new thread with people wearing their IKE shirt in different locations.
Different landmarks, countries, the opera....
Don't need a kite, just the shirt.

Did anyone see the Facebook event in their Newsfeed? I couldn't see anywhere to invite people from the club page. Seems like an obvious thing one would want to do. You can send invites as an individual, I just couldn't see how to do it from the page, not from me.
Keep calm, and park it in the pocket

IKE is on Image too!

I might come for a day. Depends on what the wife ends up doing that weekend. I don't have a Facebook account so you won't see me on the events page.

Just ordered a new Premier Widow directly from Jon T's shop (he will have made any needed adjustments to the stock factory version), so I'll probably be flying that, or an Ocius UL if the winds are light. Could probably be talked into trying someone's Rev., if they're brave enough!
I decided I needed a signature line, so I wrote this.

I didn't get an invite, but I saw other's responses to it.

I invited people from my list, perhaps other folks can do the same:
Go to the event: https://www.facebook.com/events/518150978210886/
In the upper right, if there's a "join" button, hit that first.
In the upper right, click on "Invite Friends"

I don't think it lets you invite people who've already been invited.

You bet, I have a couple "beater" revs for exactly this purpose. Any chance I can get some time on a beater dualie (but one that's better than my mass market dual line)?

. . . brave . . . I'll just stand outside the reach of the lines :)

I'm too new to the hobby to have yet relegated any kites to "beater" status. But you're welcome to fly anything in my trunk, including the Flying Wings Alpha+ that's been my go-to kite for the past couple years, the Premier Widow that's on its way from Jon T's shop as I write this, the Ocius UL, the Snapshot foil or one of the cheap X-Kite DC-Sport kites I carry to give away to interested kids.

I was less concerned about your personal safety than about your kite's safety!

Thanks!

About the kites - I've learned that I don't need to be too worried about the revs as they can take a bit of a beating. So far the worst casualties have been torn leading edge mesh on a couple old used kites, one broken race rod due to a big gust, and some fraying on the leading edge ends - all caused by me, not by new pilots. All this is after two years with lots of flying, including lending kites to new pilots. I'm not nearly as prolific as Jynx at lending out kites to newbies, but I have had a fair number of people try them out. Buying several used kites has caused me to relax a bit . . . if they were brand new, I probably would be a bit more uptight. At some point, I'll reduce the "old kite" contingent in the main bag and get some nice crispy new sails . . . but for now, the ones I have are fine. It's better to loan them out . . . and get more dark side converts  than have them sit in the bag unflown.

Don't drug dealers use the same strategy? :)

Yes. That's why I call your first Rev your gateway kite. . .

Don't worry, it's fine. All the kids are trying revs these days....

And we have cookies on the dark side.
