Earthquake!

Postby Mike » Fri, Apr 18 2008, 05:51 AM

Boy that was a surprise this morning. I was woken up at 4:30 am by the house shaking. I jumped out of bed, thinking, tornado? earthquake???
Yup, an earthquake.
See, you California members aren't the only ones who get quakes.

It seems the quake was centered around here:

I heard about that.

You can see the location data on Google Earth from the USGS.

There's also been 4 small aftershocks according to the data.

(By the way, Google Earth just released version 4.3, so get your update! http://earth.google.com/ )

The irony is:
Fern is in California right now (surprising her Mom for her 70th birthday), and I get the Earthquake!

I woke up right at that time... didn't know why I woke up until I saw the news... didn't feel the shaking though...

I slept through it, but a lot of neighbors and my father in law were woken up by it. I am amazed how far the tremors were felt.
It's a great satisfaction knowing that for a brief point in time you made a difference.

Fun!

I'll take earthquakes over tornados any day.

But then, I grew up with 'em. :-D

After the quake, the dental assistant who works in a room adjacent to my classroom was (the next day) frantically trying to get "Earthquake Insurance" on the phone. She said that there was a 9 day wait after a quake. (Oh, yeah, those terrible after-shocks here in Illinois are real killers!)

i laughed and told her to save her money... she might as well get insurance for when a Martian space-ship lands on her house!

Hey, i'm now using high speed internet! That is earth-shaking as far as i'm concerned! No email address just yet... maybe tomorrow. i like it a lot!!!

P.S.-

i need Earthquad insurance! You guys  are dangerous!

Tom...friends don't let friends tie their email to an internet service provider. As long as you're going to change your email, take this opportunity to choose a free web based one like GMail. You'll never have to change it again, even if you change providers in the future.

But no free IMAP or POP, no free spam filter, no free filtering for incoming messages and only 25 MB storage, and no flexibility to add any of dozens of addons to extend the functionality...

I have to stick by my suggestion. I've never seen anything as versatile and useful for free as GMail.

I'm very happy with my gmail. The best spam filtering I've had.

I have friends that have been running an internet service since 1995. It's free, I can add or change anything at any time and I like using outlook so I have control over everything. Plus, it allows me to consolidate all 10 or 12 of my email addresses in one place. And best of all, I have no worries about space, no limits on the size of attachments and my wife and I have our first names as our email addresses...

That's true. I actually operate 9 different email addresses through my main GMail account, and reap the benefits of all the features on all of them.

cbabbman@gmail.com is one of my addresses...

and I pull it into outlook... it goes in as another account altogether and gets it's own set of folders in the outlook mail tree. Works out nice for me.
