Living in the midwest

Postby Chris » Sat, Nov 04 2006, 05:24 PM

I can deal with the lack of wind, too much wind, but what I really can't stand is WINTER!!!!

Not so much the snow, byt the lack of daylight, and the COLD!!!

Other than that, the midwest is pretty cool(lots of kite festivals!)
It's a great satisfaction knowing that for a brief point in time you made a difference.

I hear ya. I was visiting Southern California, and I was told that there are only two festivals a year there!
I guess I'll take the cold, because there are a bunch for great festivals here from April thru October.
We'll be putting them on the calendar and going to these as a club. Next year will be great for Midwest kite fliers!

Ah, but you are ignoring Kites over the Bay in Fish Creek, WI and Color the Wind in Clear Lake, IA, both in February and both excellent opportunities to freeze your a** off while flying kites with friends.

We're going to try and make it to Clear Lake this year. Knowing we have a fly scheduled for late winter is what gets us through the season. :-)

For you music fans, that's also home of the Surf Ballroom-were Buddy Holly last played.

i don't mind flying in cold weather. Lars and a bunch of flyers on the other side of the pond fly on the frozen Baltic Sea a lot. The lack of daylight after working hours is my biggest peeve. Weekends work, and days off (vacation days)... speaking of which i have a few this week to use up before the end of the year!

i just put YoYo-stoppers on one of my Gemini kites. i can't wait to try it out... in the next day or two!
