Although their kites are in the photo, Bazzer and Monks bodies were cropped out of the photo.

That actually came up a couple times. We would go up to the front of the festival and introduce ourselves and then a translator would translate what we said into Japanese and Modegi-san (our host) would add a few words of his own. More than once he compared Jay or Bazzer's rotund size to my skinny one.
One announcer said that I was built more like a Japanese guy.

We visited 3 elementary schools, and all the kids were slim.

That's cool.

I'm searching around for video from your trip.

I found this, not you, but Steve. Is this from last week?

Yup, it's from Fujisaki--home of the Fuji apple, but not Mount Fuji. That's a different mountain that you see about 10 seconds into the video.

I haven't seen those myself.

The Fujisaki Papa routine is interesting to watch. As you can see, we're flying in a depression and have very little wind which shifts during the routine. You can see us constantly backing up, not pausing the kites, going into a move and then giving up and segueing into another move. Then the wind picks up and starts gusting!
In the same video, toward the end you can see a kite go up and down in the background. It's an SLK that is a specialty of the area. The kite is made of washi and spruce(?) and is as tight as a drum. There's a spinning, stiff, piece of paper on the back on the bowline. The spinning makes a very loud sound that varies somewhat when they pull it up and down and increase it's speed. The big kites sound like airplane engines, the smaller ones like insects.

Don't feel bad about keeping the kite in the air. Practice doing what you know and we can help you with new things (well my family can teach you and I together) LOL

I am doing better, and have been practising some things, like the hover. Sometimes I can get it to hover really well, other times, I am all over. Mike was showing me how the other day.

Let there be wind and plenty of space for me to not crash into someone else.
