Completely forgot about a kite I made a long time ago....

Was found by my brother in my father's old house.

I will see if I can post a picture from my phone. Edit...I can't because the file size is too big.

Merry Christmas everyone!

And here you go:

Sewing . . . terrible. Also, four too many spar segments (doubled in the apex of each sail). Sail material - terrible (an old cotton sheet, IIRC). But it makes me happy anyway. I had completely forgotten about this kite.

Yes, but not well. IIRC, it needed a LOT of wind, and one of the dowels broke. There's a second splinted dowel glued / hand sewn next to another one (just as badly sewn as the rest of the kite). I'm going to bring it back to Illinois and if we get a REALLY windy day, I'll bring it out. Probably will need a tail to give it some stability.

For years, I've been thinking I wanted to make a tetra, and I've always liked the geometric qualities of those kites. Now I think I know why . . . but of course it's making me concerned about what else I've forgotten . . . .

Cool. Homemade tie dye?

Yep, homemade tie dye. I think I went to a summer session at the school or something where we made tie dye, and then I took a sheet and made some more. I probably made my mom crazy - hey, take me to the hobby store to get dye, and give me a sheet to cut up!

Of course, if I want to redo that kite now, I'd have to figure out how to tie dye sailcloth . . . and I don't think that technique works on ripstop nylon.

Unique. I think that may be the only mono-chromatic tie dye in the entire world. ;)

Well, I think 30+ years of fading may have have had something to do with it.

And robbie . . . . . yeah, I don't know what happened to that kid. He had a lot more free time back then.

I know what happened to that kid. It's a thing called life. We all have to live it. The good and the bad.
