That's my fault for posting such a big image.

Boy I sure wish I had taken French or some foreign language in high school. Because all this is all sounding KLINGON to me.

But what Jeff and Mike showed and are talking about is happening with me also.

The New (x) button hasn't been working for me. It's been saying 0 new posts. I just checked by clicking on the calendar and there are a bunch of new posts. Could the RSS feed mess that up?

Mike, it's possible... the new button has been working properly for me... post counts seem to add up and I don't think I've missed anything...

I've had no problems with the New Posts link.

But since you mentioned the calendar...does anyone else like where it is? It takes up a lot of space. I really like it better in the side column. Now you have to scroll down just to see the forums, which isn't a great browsing experience.

FYI,

There is a bug in the CrackerTracker that is preventing user profile modifications.

I already know about it and know the fix so I will take care of it later this afternoon.

ok... Profile problem is resolved.

I urge everyone to go through the profile settings for yourself and see if there is anything new in there that you want to use.

For those having problems or not caring for the way unread or new posts are being done, there is a new feature built in that gives you a little more control over that section. It is called 'Unread Post Information 2 Database Mod' or UPI2DM, and gives you a bit of control over unreads... maybe you would even find some that you haven't seen... give it a shot if you want. I left the configuration of the board set so that it is turned on by user preference.

Right now unread vs read posts are handled by cookies on your computer.
The new system would store that info on the server.

It seems much better to me. I'm going to try it.

Here's some info from the FAQ if you want to read it.

#
What are the pro and contras for the cookie system?

* Advantage: With larger forums the normal cookie system has a faster page-loading than the UPI2DB system, because this system must load the information about read posts from the database. A further advantage is that the data will be stored over many months, when you don"t delete the data from you"re machine. This is interesting for users who only read the forum every 2 month.
Disadvantage: The largest disadvantage so far of this system is that you automatically mark all posts as read by closing the browser. A further disadvantage is, that edited posts won"t get marked as unread again and therefore won"t find any attention any more.

#
What are the pro and contras for the UPI2DB system?

* Advantage: Unread posts still stay unread, if somebody closes the browser, you won"t have to read all new posts at one time. Posts can also get marked as read for a time of with the UPI2DB system. Forums which are not interesting for you, can be marked as "permanently marked read", until you change the option. Edited contributions are marked as unread with a the note "Edited" and additionally have another color to seperate them from normal unread messages. A new search function permits to look for unread and edited contributions only. When the Admin activated to display edited contributions in the top of the Topics, edited contributions will be displayed at the first line of the topic.
Disadvantage: At larger forums with many posts and users, it may take longer to load the page. The information whether a contribution was read, remains stored only over a certain time period, afterwards posts will automatically be marked as read. The standard time period is set to 30 days. But this may variy on the settings from your Admin.

:( We're making you work hard, Babb.

Clear your browser cache and try again, you may have the code for the profile.php stuck in there...

I've done this with 2 different user accounts on 2 different machines and it's working for me.

let me know what happens

I had already done that. I just did it again. Cleared the cache, deleted IKE cookies, restarted the browser. Still have the problem.

EDIT: Babb fixed it. No problems no more.

I disabled the rating of topic feature to help clean up the forum topic areas... I never saw anyone using it anyway.

I used to show up at the botton of the page when viewing topics.

If someone has a compelling reason to leave it on, let me know...

I posted a bug report over at the coders web site on the view topic problem. Hopefully, someone there will come up with something to help us fix it.
