Greetings From California

Well,I've been posting on your nice forum for a week or so, thought it about time I introduce myself.
I'm Jim Foster. My wife Lynn and I are retired and have built and driven Hot Rods for many years. We have been towing a vintage Airstream travel trailer since 2000. We have been flying kites since we came across a man named Bob Serack at Rockaway Beach, Oregon in 2001. Bob was flying a four stack of five foot Revs which he made. That got my attention. A few minutes later, Bob was teaching me to fly a Rev.
Shortly thereafter, I bought my first Rev. Then, we met some kite makers who bring ribbons home for their kite making skills from WSIKF year after year.
We now have about 35 kites of various types, shapes and sizes, several rolls of left over material, a box of kite making tools, a box of kite making parts, some big spools of thread and two Pfaff sewing machines.
In the Vintage Airstream hobby, this sort of addiction would be called Aluminitis.
Here it must be called Ripstopitis, or something of the sort.
Lynn and I both enjoy flying quads together or with groups of three, four or more. I have flown with a group of fifteen quads. That group was made up of many names you would know. It's difficult to have that much fun with your clothes on. :-D

Glad I found you all!

Jim

Here's the view out the window of my house to the house across the street.

There's my driveway and a road out there somewhere.
I'm watching the snow slowly drift up the mailbox.

Think we'll get a mail delivery today?

Snow and Windy
Wind Speed: NE 33 G 43 MPH
17°F
Feels Like

Which is actually 20 degrees warmer than last week :-D

Wow, all that snow and wind. Guess you'll be flying kites with very large vents. Oh, and perhaps you might want kite stakes with colored golf balls.

Maybe more of you back there should be coming to Kite Party with Mike, where the weather is a little nicer. 8)

Y'all come, hear? Jim

Don't kid me. I was born in the morning, but not THIS morning. Those are NOT vented kites! I know a vented kit when I see one.
Those are kited vents.
I'm no fool, you know! I KNOW a kited vent when I see a kited vent..
Whada ya think I fell off a turnip truck?

WOW... so much snow...for some of us, it's beatifull to see those pictures, right out of my friend Babbman house, I am sure if I show it to my kids they would like to get a trip to one of those fantasy places. But I would have to agree with Jim... Y'all come to the party!!!
Or you can start saving 10 bucks here 15 bucks there, for next year, if you can not make it this year.
I guess after all, it's okay to live in a crowded place like California.
You guys don't know, but, I lived in New York City for 7 years, I've got there in 1969 till 1977 or so, and I know what snow and cold whether is all about. One time my car was frozen, I really kicked my car door to break the ice from it, when I tried to start it...Nothing... Dead battery...some guys make money out of that situation, they come with pick up trucks and a lot o f batteries, jumper cables, and they would jump start your car for 2 dollars, they tell you DON'T LET IT DYE, keep it running  ... otherwise is another 2 dollars for putting the cables back on your battery... :( Those where the day, in NY. I've got a lot of stories to tell, but for now, is untill tomorrow. Have a good one.

That was actually the view from my house. Though I imagine Babbman's view is quite similar.
Here's another photo for your daughters from Xmas

I'm still here. Hoping I can get out tomorrow.
Fern's mom, in California, was watching the news and they showed Champaign buried in snow. It's nothing like they have in N.Y. but I guess it's enough to shut us down. Most everything is closed, no mail or newspaper delivery, libraries are closed, and even the University, which never closes, is closed for two days in a row.

I found our driveway under here somewhere:

And Fern and I dug enough to at least get the cars out.
Here's Fern, about midway thru the task

We're ready when the airlines are!
