New member from Indiana

Postby KiteVoice » Tue, Jun 26 2012, 09:48 AM

After meeting part of :Logo180GO!: in Shawano, Wis. last weekend, I decided to check out the IKE forum. I'm a beginning dual-line flyer (been flying somewhat seriously for about three years), member of the Hoosier Kiteflier's Society, member of AKA and frequent spectator at kite festivals and competitions. Recently, I began serving as announcer at kite festivals in Shipshewana, Ind. and Shawano, Wis. (as of today, I've announced at three events).

Currently, I fly a Flying Wings Alpha+ (my first "big" kite) and just acquired a Skyburner Ocius UL. I'm interested in quads and did Ben's demo at GLKF this spring but have decided to become more skilled on duals before I seriously consider adding a quad to the kite bag.
I decided I needed a signature line, so I wrote this.

Welcome!
We'll get you flying those quads sooner than you think ;)

p.s. You did a good job announcing at Shawano, I hope to see you at more fests. In fact, come by the Michigan City festival and we'll put you on a mic! This festival is new and I'm pretty sure there's no DJ or announcer, so a little volunteering would be great and maybe get you a gig for the next years event.

Welcome to the club!
We had a blast flying to your music in Shawano (and thanks for all the great PR on the mic  )
Hope to see you around at more festivals!

Thanks, Mike. It was great to meet you and the others at Shawano. The proliferation of "Mikes" reminded me of the Bruces sketch from Monty Python's Flying Circus. Good thing you didn't name Rose "Mikaela!"

Peggy & I have tickets for a concert here at home Saturday night, so if we come to Michigan City, it'll have to be Sunday. Won't know until Sunday whether that will happen but I'd like to show up, if only to support another Indiana festival.

If you hear of any festival organizers who are looking for help on the mic, feel free to give them my email address. Peggy and I have both found that festivals are even more fun when we're doing more than spectating.

Thanks, Rose. When I created that collection, I never imagined it would be used at a kite festival. This week, I started adding some more contemporary tunes to the mix (choosing the ones that might be good to fly to), in case any future festival ever needs me to provide music.

OBTW, I forgot to mention that I'm also a bit of an amateur videographer. You can see some of my work (including several kite pieces) here. One of my favorites is, "2 Kites, 4 Lines, 1 Tail, 1 Flier."

Cool! I can't believe we never thought of tying our kites together :-P

That is a cool trick. I wonder if Ray Bethel ever tied his three kites to one tail! ? :)

Just curious ... did the Michigan City event have an announcer?

OK. I'm sure you guys did great. Perhaps I'll reach out to the organizer to see if he plans another event next year and if he'd like a volunteer to handle those duties.
