Newbie In Chicago!

Hi folks!
I'm a 30yo guy on the north side of Chicago who recently discovered the joy of stunt kiting. My dad just got me a Tornado delta dual-string from Into the Wind, looks like it's made by Go Fly a Kite, designed by Randy Tom. Haven't gotten a chance to go fly it yet, but I can. not. wait.

I would love to get together with some other flyers, but I don't have a car. I'm close enough to the lakefront that I plan on just walking over and finding a nice big field. It's a shame the only festival near me is the Kids and Kites festival on Montrose Beach. Don't have kids, don't care for them. :-)

No, seriously, are there other casual flys in Chicago? Or anyone near the city that wants to fly with a quick-learning, already-have-the-basics beginner?

Thanks for the site, and I can't wait to meet some of you and get flyin'!

Welcome to the forum and the club!

Do give Dave a call, he does know several dual line fliers and he flies duallies himself.

The club occasionally meets at the former Meigs Field. Though nothing is planned right now, there's a good chance that we'll meet there in November.
I'm also looking for sites to fly near Governor's State (which I think is at the end of the Metra Line.)

The next get together is in Kankakee--maybe you can take Amtrak? (though there will be kids around!)

Thanks, guys. I will give Dave a call and probably try to head over to the lakefront this weekend at some point.
Would love to join in on action down by Miegs field; that's very doable for me.
Kankakee is a little tougher, but you never know... I'm pretty much in with the guys at my local Budget car rental.....
And just kidding about the kids. I really do love the little jerks.

Thanks again!

Oh, and welcome to the club. Keep the site bookmarked...there's always some event on the horizon. I look forward to meeting up for a fly and having you try a Revolution. (If Mike's not going to, then I will. ;-) )

Seriously, it's great to have an enthusiast of ANY type of kite in the club. We may be heavy with quad fliers, but we'd like more members of all kinds. :LogoRevAni:

JeffRob,

Welcome [quad] to the club ... it's a great group of [quad] folks who are very interested in helping infect you with a love of [quad] kite flying. You'll find the quad flyers here seem to be [quad] the most vocal, but there are SLK, dualies, and power kiter flyers also.

[quad] Cheers,
Tom

Shhhhhhhhhh We don't need everyone to know about the real fun.

JeffRob

Welcome to the forum. Don't let these guys get to you about being a dual line flier. Lynn and I have five dual line sport kites. We have twenty something quads, but we do have five dualies.

All kidding aside, you will find a wealth of information, help and friendship on this forum.

Welcome..................

Thanks for all the hellos!
I'll just say I'm definitely interested in trying and learning more about quads, and leave it at that.
You folks are funny.

Put the new dual together last night, and it is really slick, and seems really strong.
Here's hoping for a beautiful weekend!

For basic dual line flying, Dave and the folks that will be at Montrose, should be able to get you up and going.
When you're reading for the fancy tricks, Tom (knoted4ever) is the master. Hopefully he'll be at the club picnic. He's something to watch.

Jeffrob, i'd be glad to show you how to do a few dualie tricks. Try to make it to the DeKalb fest!... it's a very nice festival!
