DeKalb is a must for all IKE members because it is put on by our very own Draftnik!
It takes place a on very large field with lots of room for everyone to fly. I forecast perfect winds and sunny skies so come on out and have a blast!

Here are the directions and hours for DeKalb:

DeKalb Kite Festival 2007
September 16th
11am-4pm
Location is NIU's North 40 (North of Annie's Wood)

-------------------

Directions to the festival from the east of DeKalb...

Go to I-88 west. Take I-88 to the second DeKalb exit (Annie Glidden Rd.) Take Annie Glidden Rd. north to Lucinda Ave. (about 2 miles off of I-88) Turn right on Lucinda, go about 3/4 miles and turn left on Kishwaukee Dr. There is going to be someone there to take money for parking, just let them know you're with IKE to get around that.

A Google Map...

(I was typing this as you posted David!)

The Mayor Daley's Kids and Kite Festival is on October 6th from 10-4 at Montrose Harbor.

Google Map

It's held on a large grass field near the harbor and at this festival, the big fun is seeing the hundreds of kids running around with their free hand-made kites.
It conflicts with the National Convention which reduces the number of fliers available. So lets give Chicago Kite a hand and get some IKE members out there.
It's close for our Chicago members. Why not spend a nice day at a park near the lake and introduce folks to the fun of modern kite flying?

Well i'll definitely be making it to both of those, so i finally get to meet all of you. This will be the first festival i made it to since napperville so i'm really looking forward to it. Anyone know the skinny on flying on the beach at montrose now that it's closed? I know it's a no no when it's open.

Went out there yesterday (montrose beach) at sunrise with the beggo and no one said anything, but i assume the rules will be enforced a bit more during the festival. If indeed there are any in place.

First of all, it's my understanding that the fest is up on the grass field, not the beach. :(

But is it really not allowed when it's open? Because I flew down there one afternoon somewhere around late June, and nobody said anything to me about it.
Keep calm, and park it in the pocket

IKE is on Image too!

De Kalb is a definite... I have quite a few friends that I am trying to get out there..

Unfortunately, Montrose is out for me as that day I am playing in a memorial concert for a good friend, and a magnificently good man, who drown last month in Door County.

Oh, Bman that's sad news. :(

We'll be at Montrose and are soooo very much looking foward to it. No kids, no dogs. Just JJ and I, celebrating the fact we survived another summer.

I don't think they would give you much trouble for revs or 2 lines. If memory serves correct i think it's anything over 4 meters that is not allowed unless certain conditions are met. But with it closed i dont know.

Thats good to know, safety can sometimes be an issue with all the kids around when I'm flying the power kites, it's like theres a neon sign hanging from it saying stand under me  Never fails.

Dekalb only, I will be at the AKA convention during Mayor Daley's. That is assuming that I have survived being the Chairperson of the Elections committee during what is turning out to be the nastiest election I have ever seen in kiting.

Oh well, that should be offset by yet another world record attempt with Octopi. 8)

Yes... it really was a tragedy... Dave was a singer in my band a few years ago... great singer, great guy... really the true definition of good..

41... left a wife and 2 kids 15 & 17. The benefit concert we are doing is to help the kids school funds... It is going to be an absolute SOBfest... we have some studio tracks of him singing and we are going to have an empty Mic with a spotlight and his vocal tracks playing while we play to end the concert... <shudder>

But, the good news is that the concert is at 7pm so I may be able to find a way to get in to the fest until about 4pm or so....
