DeKalb Kite Festival

Postby Draftnik » Sat, Jul 21 2007, 10:12 AM

Things are rocking and rolling for the DeKalb Kite Festival 2007! We're gonna have an awsome turn out for this one! Keep the date clear, cause you don't wanna miss it.

DeKalb Kite Festival 2007
September 16th
11am-4pm
Location is NIU's North 40 (North of Annie's Wood)

More details to follow, but expect to see THE barrel AND an octopile :!:

--------------------

Directions to the festival from the east of DeKalb...

Go to I-88 west. Take I-88 to the second DeKalb exit (Annie Glidden Rd.) Take Annie Glidden Rd. north to Lucinda Ave. (about 2 miles off of I-88) Turn right on Lucinda, go about 3/4 miles and turn left on Kishwaukee Dr.

A Google Map...

---------------------

Inside scoop for kiters only...at 9:30 on the kite field we'd like the kiters to meet near the demo field for a meeting. We're asking you all to bring a kite to show. Something you've made, a new toy, or some new fangled way of doing something with a kite. We're not going to fly these, just take some time to see and admire the kites on the ground before the festival starts. You're not required to fly whatever you show, and it doesn't have to be something new.

[albumimg]1030[/albumimg]Kite Festival shows its colors over DeKalb

Colorful kites showcasing all types of whimsical and magical creations will fill the skies at the Second Annual DeKalb Kite Festival Sunday, Sept. 16, 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

A barrel kite five stories high and 50-feet across is among the featured kites (weather permitting). It is so massive, it takes a large truck or piece of heavy construction equipment to hold it in place, according to event organizers.

Many featured kites defy description, including “fighting kitesâ€

This one has to go well now as I just turned down a ten day trip to Germany because I was committed for DeKalb. Lets hope for a great festival.

Oh, and Chris I will be in Canada for the last festival meeting next week

Oopff! I'm feeling some pain for ya here Al!

Ah well, it's for the best. I wouldn't be able to stow away in your kite bags, if you were going to Germany this year. :mrviolet:

Sounds like, from the news, that DeKalb had an unfortunate accident involving crowds hit by one of the demo monster trucks. Our kites will be much safer!

Stowing away in a compression sack could be hazardous to your health. :doc: :nurse:

Was that JJ in the picture from the truck mishap?

Haven't seen the pic, but JJ wasn't at the truck demo. Thankfully none of ours were there. I can't stop thinking about the mother that got run down holding her 4 year old daughter. :(

Hopefully the festival Risk Management Assesors will the feel way Knoted does about the kites after this disaster.

Yoga, I'm going take up yoga so I can fit in Al's compression sacks! Don't know how that keep him from killing me when he finds out he's missing an octopus though.
