We met Tina at MAKR this year and she is an awesome gal. Her festival is Kids, Kites and Cows, up near Madison. That's a priority fest for our clan.

Just before MAKR I learned the tentative date for the DeKalb Fest is September 16th. We'll know end of April if it's a firm date.

Hope everyone heard that.

From the organizer of the Kites Over Grinnell Festival:
To get to Ahrens Park... I80 to exit 182 - North on Hwy 146 to Hwy 6 (also 6th Ave.) - East to Penrose - North to the park on the right. There will be signs in town that should be helpful also.

Once you have an idea of who will be coming, it would be fun to have some background - maybe names & types of kites that will be flown, etc. We are trying to get all the media attention possible. :-)

If folks PM me some info I'll collect it up and post it to Grinnell.

Grinnell:

From Dick & Sis Vogel, organizers of the Grinnell Festival:

Some individuals from Grinnell have offered bedrooms in their homes. Let me know ... I will do my best to find them free lodging.

If you are going, PM me some info about yourself as quoted in the above post, and if you want a room, let me know as well.

I'll forward the info to Dick.

I know Chris, Ken, and Chicago Kite are going. Me too. Who else?

Oswego:

some more info:

The Oswegoland Park District is hosting the Oswego Earth Day Kite Fly at
PrairieFest Park on Saturday, April 21 from 12-3. We will have food,
crafts, and lots of viewing space to see the most beautiful kites in
Illinois! Our 32-acre PrairieFest Park is located right off Rt. 71, behind
the Oswego High School.

To get there from the expressway, take I-88 West to the Orchard Road exit.
Take Orchard Road left or South 9 miles, turning just past the Fox River
Bridge left on Minkler/Rt. 71. Take Rt. 71 east 1-2 miles to the high
school. Turn right into the parking lot before the school sign and follow it
back past the baseball fields to the park.

From the suburbs, take Rt. 34 west into Oswego. Rt. 34 will turn coming
into town, but stay straight continuing on Rt. 71. Oswego High School will
be on your left. Turn into the parking lot just after the school sign.
Follow it back past the baseball fields to the park.

Kids, Kites and Cows is shooting for a June festival. Is this something others are interested in attending? This is Tina's festival on her farm (a huge dairy farm that puts a gazillion kids a year through tours of the farm.) We'd like to camp up there sometime this summer and this is our festival of choice.

Assuming I have recovered from flying big kites for ten straight days and flying in a plane for 17 hours. I will probably try to make this event.

That's great Al, the big kites really make a festival.
Though don't expect too much sympathy for having to go fly kites in...where is it this time? France?

I don't expect sympathy, I just wanted to state that there is a small chance I will still be too wiped out from the trip to make it to Oswego. I take a commitment to go to a festival VERY seriously. I don't say, oh I don't feel like working that hard today or sorry, I got a better offer. I have turned down trips abroad because I was committed to tiny local flys. So, I am saying ahead of time that while Berck is a wonderful opportunity, it is also a grueling event for big kite fliers and may affect me showing up at Oswego.

I know you were kidding, I am just a bit overwhelmed this morning figuring out what I need for Berck and looking at my schedule for the rest of the spring/summer. It's not like when I showed up at a festival with a stick bag, a tent/char and some munchies. I am feeling a bit over committed.

I think I'll take a swing by the Oswego field this afternoon to see how it is... I understand that it is a popular spot for flying kites but some people who probably don't know about IKE...

I'd also like to get the Jordan up again today for a little while....

Sounds like it might be pretty small. Worth checking out for IKE members that live in the area, but I'm not sure it's worth the long drive for us southern members.
