quad routines

Postby Babbman » Mon, Apr 09 2007, 04:59 PM

Here an iquad quickie that seems to encompass some of the things that Mike, Ken and the Chris's were doing in Sycamore..

Any reason that we couldn't take this and use it as a starting point? The routines are slow and fairly simple and could be done with 2 or more people...

It's too funny that you posted that video. I was just getting on to post the same thing!
Yup, we were doing everything that they were doing. The only move we didn't try was the "blender".
I've already drawn up the diagrams for the blender and will post them shortly.

It's rather scary, IMHO... This has happened several times...

I'm glad I'm on the right track at least...

If Ken, Chris and Babbman want to do this, maybe we can meet early at Oswego to practice.

I think it might be helpful to assign positions now too, so you can visualize the moves.
Looking at the Start diagram of the blender, the top position would be me, then Babbman, then Chris, then Ken.
In other words Ken would be in position #4, Chris #3, Babbman #2, and me #1.

What do you guys think?

Looking from the back, the audience will see Ken's butt on the left, then Chris, then Babb, then me on the right.

or another way to think of it:
Ken will have all the fliers to his right, I will have the rest of the team to my left.

I love it and will be at Oswego as early as anyone else can be there...

This is great!

Hey Mike, did you go to the trouble to extract and upload that portion? Just thought I'd share a useful little Google video trick...if you add #xmys to the end of the video number (with x being the time in minutes and y being the time in seconds) you can link directly to that point in an existing video.

Like this.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to embed from that point, but the link works.

I'm getting a bit envious of all the quad action. ;)

Too bad my bro never made it to Easter with the family, and therefore, I have no new kite in my possession...must be patient.

this should be a blast.
The ehQuad video actually starts about 1:20 into the show.
After that, to give you an idea, the video has the following moves:

You might want to open this post into another window and check it off as you watch the video.

take off in a burst pattern - 180 - bol - 180 - burst - back in - burst - back in - horiz line - turn right - follow -
don't have a name for the vert line they make -- line drops down -
radar up 180° - line drops down -even numbers do a 180 (babb and ken) -
to the edges (note the nice columns) - they do a little video editing cheat and then 180 and back to the center,
blender - to the edges - 180 and back in to an immediate --
benefits - video cuts to a
square in which they slide to various positions clockwise and then counter-clockwise (I'll try not to mix those up next time  )
they do that move ken likes with the line sliding up and down, I don't have a name for that.
another follow
and finish with a Pez (at 4:21 in the video) and finally 180s to land.

Always turn and wave at the crowd so they know we're done and ready for wild applause!

I like how the go right into the blender and benefits without a pause.

yup, thanks for the hint. I remember reading about that a while ago but forgot.
I also couldn't find the video on youtube for some reason and what I actually did was download the original version form iQuad's site and converted from there. I made a portable version for my pocket pc as well.

Sorry to hear you didn't get the kite. Anytime we're flying together, you can always borrow one of mine. :revspin:

Mike

Sure wish that Lynn and I could be there to make it six. :( You folks will have a ball.

We flew with Hector yesterday at Seal Beach. He did well. Benefits, doe see does, walk ups, follows, bowls, lots of fun stuff. Haven't worked out a blender for three yet.

Three, doesn't that make it an IKE club fly? :clubfly:

Don't have too much fun now.

Gosh, even I'm envious and I can tangle quad lines just looking at them. It's exciting you guys are considering this! :bash: I know you'll proceed with respect for the orginators of the routine.

Jeff, dual lines make for dramatic pairs or team routines, and there maybe club members interested in similar dual routines. (Where is Knoted when a rant and rave about the Dark Side is needed? )

I think I just figured out the blender for three:

Start - Line up just like four kites, omit #4
Step1 - Fly forward circle 90 degrees, same as with four kites
Step2 - Kites #1 and #3 swap
Step3 - Kites #1 and #2 swap
Step4 - counter clockwise 180s
Step4 - Kites #1 and #2 swap
Step5 - Kites #1 and #3 swap
Step6 - Fly forward circle 90 degrees, just as with four kites.

Hector!! Let's try it!

Jeff I am also sorry to hear your brother didnt make it in with your freebie. :(

As Mike stated, you are more then welcome to use any of my rev's too.

I also agree with Draftnik, team flying with duallies are also very sharp to watch!! Just hook up with Tom and Razzle Dazzle the crowds with those wonderful slack line tricks or a routine of some kind.

Well, I'm the ultimate diplomat...I see no need to take sides. I would love to become proficient at both, and I'll have a great time with either. ;)
