Postby Babbman » Wed, Jan 24 2007, 06:07 AM

Found this over on Kite Builder...

you mean to tell me that they had stunt kites back in 1945?

I vote that we all make one and bring a set of 20mm guns to the next club fly... who's game?!

here's some more information..

The target kite kinda looks like a larger version of my Paul Powell stunt kite. What do you think Mike, that kite has to be 30 years old or better. I wonder if navy surplus has any crates available. Might be fun.

I just checked Google and found tons of info on this kite. Someone has one on ebay for $250.00. http://cgi.ebay.com/World-War-II-U-S-Na ... dZViewItem. They were manuvered by means of a rudder on the back side of the kite.

I'd love to build one of these...lol... I am a WWII nut... my wife is constantly asking me if I'm watching 'HITLER' on the history channel again...

Here's an article on them from Popular Science

I didn't read the articles you've posted but I've seen the kites here and there, on display at kite exhibits.
I've never seen the video before though, thanks for posting that.

You might look for a patent search on them for more construction guidelines.
They've been written about pretty extensively.

OK, look here.

Cool video!! I've seen these kites on line, and have been watching Ebay for a complete kit. It seems the kite Denny linked to is only a sail. It's been on Ebay for some time now.
It's a great satisfaction knowing that for a brief point in time you made a difference.
