Drogue cone

Postby Frodos Majik » Thu, Mar 01 2007, 12:49 AM

I was wondering on how you go about sizing a drogue cone to a kite? I am finishing up a double parasled and would like to put one on it but am not sure on the size. The sled will measure out around 4.5 by 8. Thanks.

These specs should work, as for the trailing distance, start at 20' and shorten up until it flies steady. I prefer a y bridle setup.
TRAILING DISTANCE 240"
FRONT DIAMETER 24"
REAR DIAMETER 12"
LENGTH 36"
FRONT CIRCUMFERENCE 75.36"
REAR CIRCUMFERENCE 37.68"

I just looked at your profile. You've got a lot of flowforms so I guess this advice comes from experience.
thanks for the input.

Thanks for the info akillip. Also when you say a "Y" bridle, you mean the two points on the cone to one point on the trailing edge of the kite, right?

I believe that he means for the Y to attatch to two points on the trailing edge of the kite. These would lead to one line which goes to the drogue. At the drogue opening it would branch out to 2,3,4 or more bridle lines.
Do you want a new kite? Build one! Enjoy it three ways, planning, construction, flying.

Frodos, here is a picture I saw on Harald Prinzler's site showing the "Y" bridle.
