Jeepster, do want to teach something? You've done a ton of sewing since we've last done this.
Maybe something like a mini-mock in IKE colors, fuzzy tail...

I've got some fabric and the plans on my thumb drive for a Sixth Sense(dual). Would love to have some time to work on that. This sounds good!

Right now I think either weekend works for me . . . . probably. I don't have my daughter's calendar for her extracurricular stuff, so my schedule may be subject to change.

If folks want to do a foil, I could put together a class. I think a Mini-Mock (20 sq ft) might be too much for a single day. But, a Micro-Mock (5 sq ft), which is simply a quarter scale Mini-Mock, might work ... one less keel, two less ribs, etc. That would give the builders the basic skills to build the larger foils later. The photo below shows what a Micro-Mock looks like.

I've built a pair in red/black, but haven't added any white ... not sure where I would add the white.

Would want to get in touch with Don Mock to ask his permission to teach the Micro-Mock in a class. Although the Mini-Mock plans are open to the public, asking is the right think to do.

Although Don's foils fly without tails, they will also fly well with tails. Tails will add to the top of the wind range that they fly in.

Cheers,
Tom

You might be able to drop the center keel and add some bridle line. That'd give you a little nicer space for appliqué.

Okay, I am not going to make the bag at the build anymore, because I want to learn from Tom. I have never taken any class for sewing and Kite building so this is good opportunity for me. So for kite bag I will make it home and bring it for the raffle, and it will be the IKE colors.

If you're gonna raffle it i'm buying tickets.

. . . . but the more tickets I buy, the better my chance to win, right?

Maybe I will bring some cookies or something as "tickets"

Big Mike - are we confirmed on a date?

Jeepster - you good with leading (even guys like me that haven't made a kite since I was a teenager)?

Do we need to order (or bring) our own fabric / materials? If so, I'll need a shopping list . . . I have a few yards of material, but don't know how much we need (or if we need additional stuff like edge binding).

We are good for either date we discussed, though there has been so many posts on other posts, that I am not sure which is everyones favorite for a date, and I hope someone will teach it (Jeepster? MIke Kory?) It has to be someone other than me. LOL

I think most people were good with the weekend of the 25/26th.

I'll teach if Jeepster is unable to, but I think it'd be nice to do a new kite. And I like the kinds without sticks--they pack up smaller and they don't hurt if they come crashing down out of the sky. :)

So Mini Mock it is? And it is on the 25th AND OR 26th. Bring a tent and sleeping bag!
Although at this point will we have enough time to get materials? What is needed?

We're traveling back to the Midwest right now. Let me have a little time to figure out the actual yardage for a Micro-Mock. I've been building the Micro-Mocks out of scraps, so have never done the actual calculations for total yardage.

Kite Builder was a great place to order nylon from ... 1 yard minimum of any color. The minimum from Texlon is 10 yards ... Challenge is probably in the same range. Thus, we'll probably have to decide on one or two colors to build the kite out of ... or if you have your own nylon no problems.

Cheers,
Tom

Glad to hear from you Jeepster! Looking forward to the class. I might be able to help with sourcing material . . . . depending on how much is needed and the fabric colors . . . . . . so we may have an alternative to Texlon and Challenger if necessary.

To be clear, we are talking about January 25 or 26...
