My wife says it's a good machine. Not top quallity, but a decent brand with solid production.

I look forward to seeing the kites that come out of your fancy machine!
There are a few active kite builders on the forum here to answer questions, and kitebuilder.com was a good reference back when I used to make stuff. Maybe you'll inspire me to pull out my machine again!

We use Pfaff as well. Not familiar with the 2042. We have a 1473 and a 1475. Older machines, but very reliable.
Looks like yours may have a built in "walking foot", also called "double feed". That is good for kites as the material is so thin and so slippery. On short runs it doesn't make so much difference, however, on long runs, without a walking foot, the top and bottom material may not come out even. We nearly always use the walking foot.

As for the rest, if the machine sews forward and backward, zig zag, and three stitch zig zag, that about covers it.

We also use the "needle down" feature. It makes changing direction a snap.

Good luck and have fun.
