Wherever Mussorgsky has a nice long melody, however, I try to remain within a single colour to support it. The additional steeliness and grandiloquence that Wood brings is well worth encountering and that 32 foot organ pedal for The Gate registers unmistakably. Dvorak's 8th is simply a stunning piece of relaxing classical bursting with emotion and color. It's time for some Stravinsky adds value to the programme with his rollicking Circus Polka, which bursts with the neoclassic quirkiness of his Dumbarton Oaks concerto.
