Re: Happy Earth Day

Maybe on my next one I'll include a small generator....then I could run flexible wires through the spars for the lights!

Re: Happy Earth Day

I've been doing research on building a rotor kite to bring to Grand Haven and came across this.

"Power" Kites?

One of these babies should light a few LEDs!

Which Spar Is Which?

I'm building a kite that needs several different types of sparing. I need one that is flexible enough to support a disk shape about 28 inches across with out breaking, one that merely supports an edge and one that needs to be rigid, light and sturdy for the center. I'll probably use the 4mm graphite...

Re: Electricity And Lights

I found a good simple individual light from Anthony's Kite Workshop, it looks like just what I need for a new project.

I'm still working on something more elaborate for the big delta.

Re: We Outa Fly Our Colors

Ahhh, you're asking a coumpter geek to chose a color based on a screen shot! Different video cards and different screens produce different colors, along with color correction profiles, gama, contrast, brighness, and other variable doohickies....... :rotfl Sorry, I tend to get carried away wi...

Re: We Outa Fly Our Colors

Hey, I've got a color chart for the SolarMax and I was wondering, which red should I use for the banner? There's a bright cherry red (Canada Red) or a darker, richer red like the OG red.

I should have looked a little closer at Mike's logo kite last Saturday in Sycamore.

Re: Electricity And Lights

Mike, thanks for the links I've started my LED-ucation. I'd like to have something whipped together for Grand Haven's night fly but that might be wishful thinking! Draftnick , Those are way cool! However, somehow I don't think the powers-that-be would be thrilled if we let mini hot air balloons fill...

Re: Patio Door Glass

Hey, we talked about some lights, how many flourescent fixtures do you want? They're 4' long so I'd guess two, that would hold 4 tubes. If I remember correctly they are units taken off of display cabinets so the have regular three pronged cords instead of needing to be wired...unless you really want...

Re: Kites Over Sycamore

Since the flying field is just about 3 miles away, we'd better be there!

The park district is hosting an easter egg hunt for the kids if anybody is interested. I think that's supposed to be at 10:00.

Weatherbug still says fluries for Saturday...

Electricity And Lights

I've got lots of ideas for lighting up my delta but very little knowledge of electronics. I'd like to use led lights, flexible wire and small batteries. Does anybody know of a good internet resource that I can use to learn the basics?

Re: We Outa Fly Our Colors

Wow! That’s a lot of questions for a relative novice to answer! Let see, I was planning on using SolarMax. I’ve heard good things about it from several kite people at various festivals. SolarMax is supposed to be great at holding color and it’s 200 denier. According to Texlon that’s 3oz. The...

Re: We Outa Fly Our Colors

Ok, finally got access to a camera, mine's been borrowed out for a couple of weeks. This is a paper mockup of the banner I'd like to make. (if there aren't any objections!) I've only made one banner, the penguin from MAKR but it should be fun. At least I'll learn a lot! Any comments, recommendations...

Re: We Outa Fly Our Colors

If we keep the necessary elements, ie 4 kites and lKE and webaddress, can anybody design their own banner or do we need to have it approved first?

It might be kind of cool if there were several different concepts on the same theme flapping in the breeze!

Did TIME mention the Ames' shipment of kites to Afghanistan? The second part of their story is on page 21 of the spring isue of KITING.
How cool is that?

Hi folks, Another Illinois Kiteaholoic here. We're in Sycamore, we live near Drafty (I like that). She's been asking us to officially sign up for a while now and I finally got around to it. Chris and Jim got us hooked on Kites when we joined them for a camping/kiting weekend at Mots a couple of year...
