Re: If You Can Make It...

Check with the organizing group for the festivals and see if they have any complimentary motel rooms. That is in return for filling the skies with lots of color on the festival day. And maybe night. Banners are good, too. Excellent, actually, for the festival grounds.

Re: MAKR 2008

Every year someone at OKR brings a huge can (3 gallon? Or more?) of Chex Mix which was baked with bacon fat. Whoah, my tummy gets larger just thinking about it! Lots of candies like peanut brittle, chocolate in several different formats, and several cases of bottled water and packs of soda out in th...

Re: Edge Binding Vs Hemming

I bought some of the Hancock bias tape makers. I do not like them.

I have a double fold binding attachment, but have had limited success. There is a learning curve, and the folks that make it to the top of that curve have excellent results.

Maybe someday I will be there.....

Re: Twisted Lines

Ahhh, OK, I see where my error occurred. I counted the lines in the picture. Both above the twist and below the twist. So I counted each line twice.

No wonder I flunked math in grade school! [smiley smilie=11 fontcolor=000000 shadowcolor=000000 shieldshadow=1]I goofed[/smiley]

To fully visualize this "Happy Dance" I think I need a video. :-)

Re: Twisted Lines

If I count correctly, there are at least 16 kites involved in that photo. Whew.

Re: Drogue Cone

I believe that he means for the Y to attatch to two points on the trailing edge of the kite. These would lead to one line which goes to the drogue. At the drogue opening it would branch out to 2,3,4 or more bridle lines.

Re: Static

I use spray anti-static product. Ummm, Static Guard, maybe? I don't have the can in front of me. Some people like the static when it makes the ripstop cling to the work surface. Me, I hate it when I try to throw a scrap into the scrap bin. It clings to my hand acting somewhat like a yo-yo. Wh...

Re: Le Kainos

Draftnik, I was under the impression that the two lines to the top were fastened to the edge of the material at the top. I got this impression from looking at photos of lots of the kites. Nothing from the plans. Yet.

It is the rubber grip for one of a set of new, really BIG rev handles.

Re: Babbman - 4 Meter Rotor (24 Panels)

Babbman, what was the final size of your rotor? Is it larger than the one posted at Kitebuilder.com? I am toying with the idea of making one from the sizes of material you used. I am wondering if the bridle line to the inner circumference is necessary. Maybe I need to try a small version to check th...

Re: Detail Of Lynn's Work

. Notice how there are no thread ends. I don't know how she does that. I try and not have any thread ends on my projects, too. I solve the problem by having a cigarette lighter at hand when sewing to melt the ends into oblivion. Actually I have several laying around as I tend to cover them up with ...

Sword Quad

Not sure, but I think the quad line sword was made by New Tech. Not for long, though. I never did see one in the flesh, so to speak.

I also noticed that on the arrow kite there was a much larger "point" on the commercial version. Did he fly it as a quad, or as a three line kite?

Re: Le Kainos

I have serious doubts about the possibility of a Le Kainos quad ever getting into the air. However, making it with Photoshop certainly was a success, and a good looking one at that. I got all wound up to make one of the Le Kainos SLK version, but when I got to reading about it closely I keep seeing ...
