Re: Consignment Stuff

I have heard that Jack Rogers is selling off some of his large kites and display items. There is a person here, without computer access, that would like to get in contact with Jack Rogers to make an offer, or two. So, do you know of any contact info for Jack Rogers? If so, please let me know via pri...

Re: Beginners Rev

As far as the distance from obstructions, I have heard from 7 to 11 times the distance. My favorite is the "rule of thumb": Face the obstructing buildings or trees and stretch your arm out full length with your thumb sticking up, you know, like a stereotypical artist. If the obstruction i...

Auction Action

I am thinning the herd, so to speak. I have so many kites, and laundry items around here that I need to thin things down. I find stuff I did not even remember having!

So, if you are interested in that type of thing, I have several items on the auction block at kitebuildier.com.

AKA Converntion 2007

Is anybody planning to attend the Convention in Washington this year? The National Convention 2007 is just around the corner. I would love to attend. However, transportation costs are a tad high. I think that maybe I could convince the "Boss" that we could afford another trip to visit her ...

OOPS! You grabbed my attention! How DID you keep it in place while sewing it?

I was trying to hold some nylon net screening in place to sew the other day....with no success.

Re: Wanted Killer Photo

You just wanna see this kite! I've baited you long enough, I'll give you this much. It's a premier kite (not a MAKR like I thought) and can be seen at http://www.premierkites.com/pages/kites/collections/13911_orangecube.html Nope, not a MAKR kite. However, Ralf, the designer, did present that kite ...

Oh hey, you get back here and explain how you did that sound amplifier, Mr. Kiteguy! Please. :mrblue: OK, remember when you were a whippersnapper and you made that string "telephone" with two cans and a piece of string? Well, the sound amplifier was just 1/2 of the "telephone&...

Re: Ripstop Rotor Type Kite

kiteguy , ... do you think I could skip the spreader if I put a long enough bridle on it? Yep, if the bridle is long enough. Just how long is the question. I, too, am not certain if it will fly. The only rotor kites I have seen were about 10 in. diameter, (I have seen one that is 1 inch diameter) a...

Re: Grinnell Last Week

Notice the 6 spin socks in the background. 8ft, 10 ft, and bigger ones. I was unable to put any other laundry out that day, as I was afraid my line would not handle the load. It was singing quite loudly. I put a sound amplifier on the line (A paper cup on a string) so passing spectators could hear t...

Re: Ripstop Rotor Type Kite

Looking good! It looks larger than 30 inch circumference. I suspect that you could put a spreader in the bridle line just in front of the vertical parts of the rotor.

Not sure how you would fasten the spreader, though. That should be easy to figure out, I would bet.

I obtained a LOT of hot air balloon material. Actually an entire balloon that had been put out of commission because it was not airworthy enough to carry people. It was free, and I just had to drive over and pick it up. There is a lot of material there, hard to realize it when you see the small ball...

Re: Hot-cut Vs Cold-cut

Some do, most don't. Just straight stitch the applique, cut close to the stitching, and then go around the applique with a wide zigzag spaced very close together. I think it is called a satin stitch. Just make the stitching overlap the edges of the cut part and over the strait stitch. This said, it ...

Re: Hot-cut Vs Cold-cut

Cold cut only. Except for exposed edges that flap in the wind. The exposed edges of an applique don't seem to be bothered. As a gift I got one of the hot cutters from Kite Studio (Kitebuilder.com), and it does tend to make me hot cut more often that I ever have. However, I would NEVER expend the mon...

I wish he showed photos of his stuff in the air. Inflating a Santa from a vent in the belt only, I wouldn't have thought that would have worked well. But I don't have experience with inflatables. Here is Snoopy enjoying life after being a yard art object. Now he is a favorite at all the festivals w...

Re: March 24th Club Fly

Everyone put on your hiking boots, grab a bag of kites, and head for Grinnell, IA on May 5th. Room for some big ones, a gym for indoor flying, and a golf driving range for SLK, and a BB field and soccer field for demos. Just a tad over 300 mile from my house, but I plan to be there.
