Re: Local Fly 7/5 and/or 7/6

Between the winds and not much available room on the soccer fields, I bagged it too. Went out to Burlington to practice KAP.

We'll see what tomorrow brings.

Re: Local Fly 7/5 and/or 7/6

Almost anytime is fine for me since I live so close. Late morning or early afternoon perhaps.

Re: Local Fly 7/5 and/or 7/6

Can't make it today :( . . . because I convinced the wife that we could have a nice family day at Indiana Dunes State Park :-D . . . she knows it's so that I can fly kites :-D . . . she doesn't know that I'm telling people here on IKE that I can't make St. Charles because I'm planning to fly Revs (...

Re: Wind Apps

A way to check current wind speeds that many non-aviators may not know about is to call the local ASOS phone line. (Automated Surface Observing System) These are automated sensor rigs that provide meteorological and aviation observations. There are currently more than 900 ASOS sites in the United St...

Local Fly 7/5 and/or 7/6

Anyone interested? Mid-day winds on Saturday are forecast for around 10 mph and slightly higher on Sunday. I can travel a bit or can meet at the East Side Sports Complex here in St. Chuck. (Don't know if the fields will be soccer occupied, however. Wish there was a way to find out in advance.)

Re: New Dual-Line Flyer With Questions

I feel like I'm back in the sixties... do what you want to do. Anywho... I just took a look at the two pre-made line sets that I own. Both have straps. It appears that the opposite ends of each line are identical. Except one end has a strap attached. A person could remove the straps, then wind up fr...

Re: New Dual-Line Flyer With Questions

I'm going to put this question into my original post and hope that it gets found. Regarding winding up dual lines. I think I've got it down now... preferring the criss-cross (figure eight method) onto the winder. I am pretty much now getting it on and off the winder tangle free. (With one terrible e...

Re: First KAP

Hey basicbill - Question for you - is that KAP rig remote controllable or fixed? I'm guessing "fixed" based on what I saw on the Jones Airfoil web site. Full disclosure . . . my picavet is 100% NON-controllable, with the extra benefit of a more complicated (tangle-able) suspension rig tha...

Re: First KAP

Thanks. I live so close to East Side that most of my excursions there are last minute things. Just went there for some sunset flying just because it's close and there was a nice breeze. Had the whole place to myself except for a distant baseball field in use.

Re: First KAP

if you have the wifi adapter for the gopro, you can view the shots and video as well as control all features of the camera. I used mine at grand haven for the first time and worked really well. Plus you don't have to delete all the photos that are duplicates. Yep I used my phone app to monitor what...

First KAP

After my water bottle weight test from a few weeks ago I decided to order the Jones KAP rig for my GoPro camera. Keeping it simple. But even though I did the weight test using my Prism Delta, I decided I "needed" a different lifter. The UltraFoil 15 kite from Into the Wind seems to have a ...

KOLM Questions

Hi all, My wife has suggested that we try attending a few more kite festivals despite seeing the virtually wind-less Crystal Lake event this year. So I've been looking around for a road trip one. The Two Rivers, WI event on Aug 30 and 31 looks interesting. I've looked at the IKE archives and it seem...

Thanks TMadz. Yes, I'm working on those also. I get into them fine but a precise roll-out at where I want to go has been elusive so far. Practice, practice.

Re: New Dual-Line Flyer With Questions

I was out this afternoon with my Nexus at the nearby, soggy East Side Sports Complex in St. Charles. The wind mostly cooperated at about 11 mph to almost nothing at times. Basic flying was going well so I decided to try a roll (Spin? The thing where the lines twist.) The other day when I tried a few...

Re: New Dual-Line Flyer With Questions

Thanks for the replies, guys.

I'll keep working on smooth concise turns and such. More angular turns too. Tricks are way down my list at this point.

I can already see where a larger kite might be in my future.

New Dual-Line Flyer With Questions

Hello all, I posted this at another forum too, but would appreciate input from you folks. I recently bought a dual-line kite to see if the multi-line thing would interest me. I had an Amazon gift card and ordered a Prism Nexus. I'm wondering if there is a suggested series of dual-line maneuvers to p...
