Re: Kite Retreat 2014, Sept 27-28

About what time of day(s) does this generally kick off? Weather permitting, of course.

I'm seriously considering it. I'd like a full immersion kite flying day or two.

Skyburner NikNak

I was a bit frustrated not having anything to fly in light winds besides a few single-line kites. I didn't want the purchase to break the bank (I'll save that for the next Rev.) so after a lot of reading I decided on a NikNak from the folks at Kites & Fun Things in Michigan. It arrived today aft...

Re: Saturday the 19th

A seven minute video from the 19th at Busse Woods. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PsmhkgVTYXk [BBvideo 425,350:2iq7i1r1]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PsmhkgVTYXk[/BBvideo:2iq7i1r1] The guys were flying in some very light winds. I've no idea what model kites, frames, line length and strength that t...

Re: Higher Wind Rev Advice Wanted

Looks like a full vent is the way to go. May think about getting one down the road. Something else. I couldn't understand what the whole "no snag" handle thing was about until it started to happen to me. A quick shake of the lines seems to un-snag them, but I can see where snagging might b...

Higher Wind Rev Advice Wanted

I had the itch for more Rev practice yesterday. During the day it was too windy for my EXP. But in the evening the winds came down to below 15 mph. Although there were the occasional gusts above that. I figured I'd chance it. So I'm doing my usual practice when a gust hits. Wham! And I'm stepping fo...

Re: Greetings from St. Charles, Illinois

Today was my first time out with my Rev EXP in some decent wind. About 10 mph. About an hour during lunchtime. Mark had advised me on Saturday to takeoff, climb up into the wind window and then descend ever so slowly under control to an upright landing. I think he said to practice it a hundred times...

Re: Saturday the 19th

That was great! Wish I could have stayed longer but I was reminded of an early dinner commitment. I sure learned a bunch. Those guys could not have been more helpful. I should have a few photos later. Here's a quick cellphone shot.

Re: Saturday the 19th

I'll be there if you folks can handle an inexperienced flyer hanging around. If the wind is low I don't think I'll have anything to fly except possibly a low wind SLK. Which is OK since I'll learn a lot by just observing. I just got in from about an hour or so of flying when the wind unexpectedly ca...

Re: Saturday the 19th

OK I see it. Thanks.

Will this be wind dependent? Looks like 6 mph or less is currently forecast.

Re: Greetings from St. Charles, Illinois

sounds like you are well on your way! The handles that come with the Exp usually have equal length attachment lines at the top and bottom. You attach your flying lines at the end of these lines. But there is a better way. If the handle's attachment lines have additional knots, you can attach the fl...

Re: Greetings from St. Charles, Illinois

So today I spent about 3.5 hours at the Burlington Prairie with my first Rev flight attempt. Barely any wind for the first couple of hours which made it a challenge. The first issue was the left upper bridle connection had come apart. So I had to reverse engineer that by looking at the opposite side...

Re: Greetings from St. Charles, Illinois

My EXP arrived early enough this morning from TheKiteSite to fly today except the wind is not cooperating. Gusting over 25 mph at times. So I've practiced assembly and dis-assembly a few times while inside. (And it fits fully assembled in my little car, too. Neat!) One of the bridle ends had become ...

Re: Greetings from St. Charles, Illinois

Wind looks like it might be OK this weekend, if you miss the storms. Weather tomorrow doesn't look promising . . . . maybe Sunday. I'm now trying to figure out when I'm going to mow the lawn . . . since it just keeps raining . . . . What are "ideal" winds for the Revs? My impression is ab...

Yes we can help you with purchasing a Rev! Give us a call when you're ready. We have alot more options that are not on our website. Big Mike The Kite Site http://www.thekitesite.net 815-953-8303 I took the plunge on an EXP. ( Had Paypal funds from my RC quadcopter sales that "needed" to b...

Re: Local Fly 7/5 and/or 7/6

Between the winds and not much available room on the soccer fields, I bagged it too. Went out to Burlington to practice KAP. We'll see what tomorrow brings. Bill Heading west of 47 gets you lots of room. I have a few places to fly with no competition. Especially the high schools being out for summe...

Re: First KAP

Out to the Burlington Prairie Forest Preserve to practice my KAP technique. Nothing special from the photos since there's really not much to see. Here's the parking area looking to the northeast. BPFP.jpg I've come to the conclusion that the area is not well suited for multi-line flying. Not enough ...
