Re: What kind of kite?

Yeah, I find it hard to believe I haven't found anything similar, really. It didn't look like anything custom or home made, but who knows it was attached to what was probay an 80 foot super yacht.

What kind of kite?

When I was in Ft. Lauderdale last year there was a VERY LARGE boat the was docked near the hotel, and it had this small kite attached to a pole by 2 or 3 feet of string, much like a windsock. I think it looked like a bat (or maybe a dragon) and was black/blue if I recall correctly. My question is, w...

Re: Sand Anchor question

That's not a bad idea ... I'm not looking to anchor anything huge, a fairly typical mid-sized delta, a DC, etc.

Sand Anchor question

Hey all, I'm looking at the Sand Anchors on Gomberg's site and I can't find anything there (or elsewhere on the internet) with recommendations on anchoring capacity. Does anyone know (generally) about how much pull the medium vs. large sand anchors are designed for? There's something on the product ...

Re: KAP Water Bottle Weight Test

Reminds me of the trick my Dad used to do. We'd go down to the beach and he'd put up a cheap delta on enough line so that it flew up high and almost out of sight. Then he'd attach a plastic pail to the line so that it looked like he was flying a bucket. People were amazed and would stop and ask how...

Re: Wind Apps

I mostly use the weather.gov web site from my laptop. One of these days maybe I'll get an app for my phone (although it's getting much s l o w e r to load stuff . . . so I stopped downloading new apps). I'm a bit of a dinosaur when it comes to phones . . . . even though I work in software. I didn't...

Wind Apps

I'm curious what wind apps and/or web sites you guys use? I like WindAlert personally (on iPhone, but I think there's an Android version too), what else is out there that's good?

Re: Losing my flying field

One of the things I've never thought about with a tornado is where the broken glass ends up. Seems it gets imbedded in the soil ... duh. One of the neighborhood parks in the direct path of the tornado had to have all the sod, mulch, and playground equipment removed because of the abundance of glass...

Re: Losing my flying field

I can try one thing. The school football field and track are next to my field. They usually leave it open for people to walk on the track. I suppose I could still fly there. Whaddya think Swannie? Schools almost out. Wanna give it a try? I was thinking about that. Not as ideal for SLK but should wo...

Re: Losing my flying field

Well, you can tie off the SLKs to the fence . . . Lemons/Lemonade... I wonder if with this construction they'll purchase one of the other near by farm fields (assuming they don't already own) for use as their new "Miscellaneous and Whatever" field? I'd think they'd still need a place to d...

Re: Losing my flying field

They had a drawing of it in the middle school office when I stopped in last week. I don't know the orientation exactly, but it's 3 ball fields and a basketball court arranged like a pie. So, all the home plates at the center of the field? hmmm... still might be hope that some of it is usable. Of co...
