Re: Quad Line Length

Jeff, a couple of small things. Since you're space limited, the rule of thumb is 100 ft from obstructions for every ten feet of height (give or take a few). The wind needs space to smooth out after going around or over trees/houses/hills/etc. Revs can accommodate that some, but smoother wind is bett...

Naperville Park District Fly

Anyone planning on stopping by Naperville's kite fly Sunday? Right now looks like the wind is gonna be a Full vent or Xtra vent. Plenty of wind to lift the big stuff.

Re: Quad Line Length

Stock length is 80'. Team flying standard is 120'. 120' lines give you slower reaction time and forgiveness on moves. If you're flying by yourself 80'ers are great. Some people cut down old, broken or worn lines to 30'-40' for small area flying. Much quicker response. Indoor line lengths are anywher...

Re: Vertical rods question

Just buy a set if you can afford it. It's nice to have a couple of spares in case you need them. I haven't broken one yet, but I've broken a few with dualies. You never want to be down for long. Consider it insurance.

Re: Vertical rods question

First of all you are definitely limiting your wind range by flying that behemoth SLE rod. The vertical spars aren't under the same stress as the leading edge so you can use what you want. There is no reason other than weight consideration. I would say get rid of the SLE and get a couple of different...

Re: Estimating # of Volunteers Needed?

Having donated time ot other festivals in the past, trash collection and organization is key. having someone who is in charge who knows where stuff is supposed to be and when is key. Signage helps, but the more organization and stuff that can be done before the day of is critical. Can you setup the ...

So since I figured a day trip to GLKF was too far to go safely, I'm going to help out the rec dept. If there is anyone in town and wants help too, please feel free. I can't pass up an opportunity to get my stuff out with people who want me to be there.

FYI Luke. Mike Kory tries to get a group rate at one of the nearby hotels. He'll post the info the closer we get to the retreat. If you can beat it, no problem. No pressure. Just fun having more people there.

Keep in mind that school is out and the beaches will be crowded. Even on Monday and Tuesday. And the sand will get quite hot.

Re: Can't use Richard's common nickname here

Also, Dick will now show up. I assumed there was a list that admins could edit. Good for you for allowing us to refer to our friend by his chosen nickname again! I loved Kirk Douglas in that role. One of my favorite movies. "I'm Dick." "I'm Dick" "I am Dick." "I'm...
