Re: Spike Ball Update

Unless you use a big lifter to get it completely out of reach, do you really think you an keep the kids away from it? That is why I don't own a big Fugu.

So Whats It Like Fying Big Kites

I was asked what it is like flying show kites, so here goes: So you have been invited to fly show kites at a festival, before the festival you need to figure out: 1) Is the field really big enough? Organizers tend to underestimate the amount of space needed. They also often tend to assume the wind w...

Re: Stunning Quad Handles

Nice handles, When I was flying a six pack of Rev Is I had handles made from B1 bomber titanium brake line tubing, but they just looked like longer than normal handles.

The sled looks good, putting sharp blases on a buggy always seems dangerous

Re: Kites Over The Bay

This will be the third year for this festival. It was hurt last year by the warm winter and being canceled due to lack of ice and then uncanceled. Toby Shlick of Fish Creek Kites is the organizer and it should be a nice fly if they have ice this year. Of course I am prejudiced as I am an invited gue...

Re: Power Kites

The sled has to have enough drag not to catch up to the kite and slack the lines or have enough of an edge to bite into the snow and be able to tack across the wind. Some people use short skis and some replace buggy wheels with blades. Lee Sedgwick always had a valentines day traction ice fly. I don...

OK, Now I Will Have To Think Of Something To Say

When I commented to Dave that the club had appeared to have more of a sport kite focus, both to myself and another single line flier who had looked around about a week ago, I was planning on suggesting that a single line forum be added. Apparently, Dave suggested the show kite forum, and now I will ...

Re: 1,800# Line Being Cut

The worst case I have had was a parent and child at Kites on Ice entering a roped off area and the parent having the child wrap a tentacle around her neck as a photo op. The mother was incensed that the three people running at her child screaming at her to get the tentacle off of her neck had scared...

Re: Skyliners

Like many clubs, it was the same group of people that did all of the work, year in, year out. They finally got tired of doing
all the work. MAKR is the last remnant of the club.

1,800# Line Being Cut

It annoys me when you hear an event announcer telling the kids leaving the kite making booth to go fly by the giant kites. 1,800 # spectron 12 gets cut by that cheap stuff from the kids kites just as easily as that light 100 or 200 spectra. It also boggles my mid that people who tangle with a big ki...

Re: Living In The Midwest

Ah, but you are ignoring Kites over the Bay in Fish Creek, WI and Color the Wind in Clear Lake, IA, both in February and both excellent opportunities to freeze your a** off while flying kites with friends.

Re: Club Fly Dec 22nd

The day after Christmas fly on Cricket Hill at Montrose Harbor would be the Ed Liphard fly. This was a Skyliners fly when they were still active, but a few of us still make it out there. I am working at least a half day on the 22nd, what time is the fly planned for? Also if it is wet I probably won'...

Hello

Hi! Many of you know me already, I fly giant kites, I served as the AKA region 6 director for six years, with seven years as Treasurer partially overlapping for a total of ten years on the board. I travel all over the Country to over 20 festivals each year and once or twice a year get to go out of t...
