Re: Cephalopods

Cool! Very kite-like in the way it hovers! i collect fossils and have a lot of cephalopod fossils. Many i have, from the Silurian period, are well over 400 million years old. i have both coiled and straight forms... and semi-coiled too. They've been around for a very long time! :mrblue: Hi, Tom. :c...

Re: Who is flying what, where and when this week 7/24-7/30

Flew today at Busse Woods as I mentioned in the "Who is flying..." thread from last week. Home-made rev that's pictured there, used to be all-white, got un-white during the weekend rains. Broke it again in 6-7 mph wind towards evening, flying on 85'x50#. Switched to my other ul home-made w...

Re: Who is flying what, where and when this week 7/24-7/30

Well . . . where I am had mostly rain all day. There was a break mid afternoon, so I went out to fly for a bit. Vented 1.5 on 3 wraps and 120s . . . and it was WAAAAYYYYY too much wind for that kite. I was having a fun time . . . until the cloudburst. Soaked to the core, wrapping up the lines in bl...

Re: Who is flying what & where this week? 2011-7/17-7/23

Wendy: cool! Photos! Mark: nice looking kite! What's it made out of? Mike, It's made of kitebuilding materials -- seriously though, it's ripstop poly on a rev race frame, with stick-pen end caps. That's the all-white ultralight I built before. It got un-white during the weekend rains. Decided that ...

Thanks, Steve. Thanks, Mike.

I'll try to get the camera software into my laptop today and give it try, or figure out a way to link my laptop to my android phone.

Re: Who is flying what & where this week? 2011-7/17-7/23

Flew yesterday evening at Busse Woods. Winds were steady at 0 - 1/2 with an occasional gust to 2 mph. Tried to fly the blk/red 1.5 sle on 85'x50# and got it up in the air briefly two or three times in the gusts. Pulled out my low-wind home-made revs and flew them on 50'x50# and the 85'x50# lines and...

Re: Rev, beach, stones . . .

He flies incredibly well with amazing precision; almost as well as I flew all night long. (had my eyes closed, snored a bit)

What country is he from? Is that Belgium?

Re: Kite Bags/How to carry ?

I have a couple bags. I have a Prism Zepher hard case that will hole two revs, 4-5 linesets, and some odds and ends. Then I also have a large roll-up bag that will hold alot of kites and spars and everything else. I also have a messenger bag that I use for lines and handles. Revolution makes a nice...

Re: Kite Bags/How to carry ?

I'm ready for a second bag. My first one is a 60" with shoulder strap and cinch straps at both ends made by premier. It holds all my early kites, but it's too short for duallies unless I break down the leading edge spars, and it has no pockets for lines or handles. I've seen the roll-up bags th...

Re: Who is flying what & where this week? 2011-7/17-7/23

Got to fly today this evening with Mark & Jeff at Busse. Plenty of wind - had the vented out on 120s for the whole time until we packed it in for the evening. Hit the ground with my new creation a bit hard (should have known better than to fly a 3.7-oz, 8-footer in those winds, but had to check...

Re: Lost lines/Best online place to buy ?

I like the PEX Chinese import POS fishing line. You can buy a 1000 meter spool for $20.00. It binds up beautifully after 3 or 4 spins and makes the kite extremely difficult to control, thus making you a much better flyer in a short time. (And if you actually believe this, I've got a bridge in New Yo...

Was thinking today would be good to get out after work for a while. But the heat and humidity will be so bad, I'll just have to play it by ear... Same here. I'm tied up with work, but I've considered flying afterwards if it's not too hot. I'll be working near 355 & 88 this afternoon so I could ...

I've never flown at Northwestern, but I've fished there. If we ever see prevailing winds again in this area we can fly over the lake. I'm in.

Re: Who is flying what & where this week? 2011-7/17-7/23

Flew my new B series tonight. Perfect winds, finally. Only had an hour but I could have went all night it was so much fun. Moved lines out to the ends of my top leaders and everything went well there. I feel much more confident with this kite than my smaller non-rev. I tried flic-flacs a few times ...
