Re: New Member

That 3 tail line laundry...does it rotate? I like that and the basket kite. Very nice! Thank you for sharing, and welcome!

Re: Favorite Weather Per Hour Sites For Illinois

A wind meter that you can mount on your roof and read wireslessly in the house isn't too expensive. You need our littlest flyer. She'll look at the tree tops in the morning and announce, on the appropriate days, in an old grandmotherly way, "Good day to fly kites." :mrviolet: 4 years old ...

Re: Sewing Machine Recommendations

That's a heart break to loose an old machine like your grandpa's. An old singer treadle base holds my computer now. No machine for it, but with a new top it works for a laptop desk. My machine has the cogs I think you're talking about on the Viking. They're kinda fascinating, to watch how they chang...

Re: Sewing Machine Recommendations

I just made the rounds of examining sewing machines. I refuse to pay alot for one, when I have an old counter top model that I'm happy with, but I need a portable one for MAKR. For a new machine, I'd go with a Brother, they're cheap enough, and run well. Last I checked it was $70 to get a machine pr...

Textiles? I'd consider getting serious about silks if I had a source along those lines!

Re: New Flow Form

JJ flies a PL Pilot from MAKR like Grants (Hiya Grant!). The 4 pieces of smallish line laundry we made at MAKR don't phase it. We use dog stakes, but look for weight rated ones. I think the ones we have are rated 500lbs. That said, our 50lb dog managed to bend one at Naperville. Not sure how...

Re: *MERGING C: AND D: DRIVES*

If you guys are looking to cut your teeth on video projects, I have a s'gestion. As an even organizer one of the biggest obstaces we had was getting sponsors to understand what a kite festival is. We would like to have something that presents a kite festival to the un-initiated. One of our team of p...

Re: Jeff ...no Clever Nickname... ;-)

Welcome Jeff to the club and kiting! Chicago Fire had alot to do with my husband and sons interest in kiting. They and a quad kiter, flying on the public field at Bourbonaise, our first festival, really captured their kite interest. To this day I wonder if that was Mike.

KarFree Flowers is the sponsor/organizer of the kite fest in Sycamore. Yes we were there last spring! I'll get the number for you next week. Kent and Chris Wren are the couple that put that on. Let me know if you need help finding a number for them. Heaven help us on the lack of diversity in names! ...

Justin Roth does some tapping if I'm thinking of the same thing. http://www.justinroth.com/discography.html Weaver of Avoca is a song with tapping as is one inspired by the "Hobbit". Can't remember the name of the last one, but I think the title indicates the book somehow. ttfn, Draftnik

Thanks for the welcome! The short of it is, no date yet for the next DeKalb Festival. The long of it is, it's a college campus and our dates are contigent on the football schedule, which is in turn is contigent on TV schedules. We're shooting for the closest availible date to last years Sept 17th da...

Re: Logo Items

What about some business cards to hand out to interested folks? Something with the short and sweet of it, web address, snail mail, etc. to hand out at festivals. Even just a printable version on the web, that could be printed off at home and kept in the kite bag. We've had a time remebering/joining ...

Re: Order Of Business: Safety

Kite fests have their fair share of headaches, but they are as addictive as the rest of the hobby. :-D The DeKalb festival was a very fulfilling experience, due in large part to the great flyers that turned out for it.

(Hi all! Great idea, this forum!!)
