Re: Kites Over Lake Story

Today's going to be a much better flying day. Winds are perfect and the sun is feeling good already. Yesterday the weather made flying anything pretty rough. Hanging out with the kiters made the day enjoyable, and the cold wet weather made the hot tub very welcomed. I can't figure out how anyone exp...

Re: Al Stark - Dekalb?

I was driving through town one day and nearly cause a pile up when I noticed the window at the art gallery was full of KITES!

They were beautiful, all natural, simple block print designs. Very elegant.

I was thinking he's on IKE, but I'm not sure how active a reader he is.

Re: Candy Dropper

We were told about 3 pounds of candy is typical. Much more gets too hard to lift.

You want to watch that the candy doesn't spill pre-launch or you'll be swamped before the kite gets up in the air. :-)

Re: Announcement: A New Section Of The IKE Website

Ben used a Layden jar to collect the electricity from the kite line. Flew before the storm hit close by, and his line was dry. Or so legend has it. He actually sorta did that experiment on the down low. It wasn't one of his more documented experiments.

Re: 2008: March 22, Kites Over Sycamore, IL

I think there's about 2-3 inches of snow on the ground now. Blech. It was really hard to force myself to look outside, but I did it. If the sun comes out and looks to run this white shtuff off, maybe we'll go, but I don't expect to make a day of it. The flower shop is usually a nice reminder that sp...

Re: Trains To Archs - Possible??

Oui. Yea!

In an arch, the kites are attached (by sewing, but there's pry some other way to do it) horizontally to the flying line. The flying line works as the horizontal spar.

Nice idea!

Re: 2008: Sept. 14, Dekalb Kite Festival, Dekalb, IL

That's right Chicago Kite's the contact on this. This festival has grown the last two years and we're no longer involved with the planning. The Chamber was well informed on all other area festivals. The choice was made because it's the best date for the local community. A good priority given recent ...

Re: Makr '08

Home. Exhausted. Another great year. Silk banners were a day and then some of groovy girl stuff. Textiles, painting, laundry, and ironing. The silk banner I was ready to rip to shreds in frustration the afternoon before, turned out to be one of my favorite pieces from the weekend. Sunday, I found I ...

Re: Makr '08

I hope you all have fun at MAKR. I won't see you at dinner this year as I will be in Thailand flying at a festival in Cha-am. It was a tough choice: dinner at MAKR or Thailand ;-) Tough choice my foot! Have a great time Al, and do tell us all about it when you get back. Donna! Yea! Glad your ...

Re: Makr '08

Hi Jeff! I've been thinking 'bout you, wondering if you got a wild hair this year and decided to come to MAKR. It's not too late. You still could ya know! These aeolians are table top models. Diff then what Paul did, but enough of an experience in making them that there maybe more to come. You...

Re: Makr '08

We'll be there. Or JJ will, if I perish from anticipation before. It could happen! :bash: I'm submerging in a weekend of painting kites and building aeolians. Hopefully a very Zen and much needed escape. In spite of what SOME would say, it's not a cop out, not to have a sewing machine to haul around...

Re: RED KITES A News Intro From The BBC

That is a neat clip. Thanks. You camera jocks likely already know this...it works for stills, not sure about video. You can make a handful of people look like a festival of kites, by putting them in the distance, take panoramic pics and have the people move along with the camera view. A fun artsy th...

Re: MAKR 2008

I'll have IKE patches with me at MAKR for everyone who's interested in them.

I'd even sew on a couple for those who get special dispensation, and haven't fallen asleep in their easy chairs.
