Re: Where Did The Wind Go?

File a flight plan, for sure. *grin* I'm pretty sure I looked like Superman for about, oh, 2 seconds before I ignominously ate dirt. You know, I really appreciate having people to talk to about this stuff - my friends are, for the most part, sedentary creatures whether by nature or circumstances, an...

Re: Where Did The Wind Go?

I managed to get some flying in today. I drove out to Vernon Hills and flew for about 2 hours, and then, suddenly... I had a revelation: flying a power kite, alone, in a field where no one really goes, in an unfamiliar area, after telling no one where I was going, during winds that were higher than ...

Re: Where Did The Wind Go?

Thanks for the encouragement. :) And especially for the wind site, Jynx.

Looking good for today, I'm happy to say. So as soon as the cats are fed and the dishes done, I'm out in search of a field. :-D

Where Did The Wind Go?

Hi everybody, I went on vacation for a couple of weeks, helping my parents out with their house, and managed to get in some killer flying time on the beach in Muskegon, MI. It was fantastic (and, if possible, I'm even MORE hooked on flying than I was before). I got back and have been seriously stoke...

Re: Mike From Tucson In Campaign Saturday June 20

Hey... Milwaukee isn't that far away! I've got plenty of room for you/s! Saturday is an impromptu fly at our Summerfest grounds! Wish you and all the IKEers could attend! Hi Jynx (love saying that *grin*) What time? I can't make it all the way to Champaign, but I could make it up to Milwaukee - can...

Thanks for the tip. :) Mom said the same thing. I haven't been down there in years, so I'm trying to talk my parents into making day of it. If I don't make it this time, though, I'll definitely hit it next time.

Re: Newb

Hi all, I am currently vacationing in Michigan, visiting family, and I took the opportunity to go to the beach here in Muskegon and fly my kite - and all I can say is... OMG. BIG difference, flying it in 15-20mph winds, instead of the wussy little 10-15mph winds I've been flying it in. I am soooooo ...

Can you actually find someone who doesn't want to fly?

Re: Newb

I'm glad that spot worked out for you. I used to fly there a bit when I worked in that area. Lots of open field space there. Those sports complexes are pretty nice for flying. So many soccer leagues, they leave nice open areas for us when they're not playing. :) I've never been opposed to soccer, b...

Re: New Member In Western Suburbs

:welcome1: I'm with you on the needing another fix bit - I've been desperately searching for an open space near my home... *grin* The City of Evanston is not cooperating, though. Lack of foresight on the part of the founding fathers, I think. Building all those houses and putting in a university. *s...

Re: Newb

Hmm... if braid my hair up and use a ball cap to keep the strays out of my ears, that might work. Thanks for the advice. I'm hoping that, as I get better with the whole not-crashing-the-kite thing, I'll get better at noticing things other than the kite. The direction the wind was blowing today, I co...

Re: Newb

I got my kite back in April (early). I watched videos and read forums and decided to wait until I could get a lesson, and man I was glad I did. Intimidated the heck out of me, I don't mind saying. I had my lesson last weekend. Even with light to no wind I felt nervous, but the rush was totally worth...

Re: Newb

Thanks for all the warm welcomes - this is great. :) Hi to all of you! I'm really excited about flying again. I know that a lot of folks will be out in Pontiac for the festival - is anybody going to be flying locally (meaning Cook or Lake Co)? Any suggestions on where I could go to fly that I won't ...

Re: Newb

Thanks, Mike. Good info to know - especially since I'm still new enough to have serious kite-control issues. Just call me Crash. *sigh & grin* I already dropped David an e-mail. No moss growing on this stone. ;) I'm almost afraid to check out any other kite types - who knows where that c...

Re: Newb

Hi all, Thanks for the welcome. :thanks: I'm flying (well, attempting at this point, but someday...) an HQ Rush III Pro 350 3.5m kitesurfing trainer. Eventually (meaning next year) I want to take up kite surfing, but I decided to start out with just the kite part, and man am I glad I did. Kiting is ...

New to kiting, new to the forum. Got a shiny new power kite that I've taken out once, and I'm trying to figure out where to fly that isn't going to take hours to get to (I'm near Northwestern). Flew my kite for the first time over the weekend, and it was AWESOME. Fantastic experience, and I can't wa...
