Re: Club Fly, 6/29/13

It would be nice to see some of his big kite, and meet him too. I saw some of his big kite on area51. Thanks for the compliments guys. I try to warn folks not to attend festivals or club flys where IKE members are present. A few years ago I went to the Pontiac festival and Big Mike forced a set of ...

Sky Lanterns

Noticed this announcement in the paper this morning. Sky lanterns, like the ones at the Kites Over Lake Michigan festival, are now illegal in Illinois. June 1, 2013 ( CHICAGO) -- What goes up must come down - and if it's a floating lantern, it poses a serious danger. That's why the Illinois fire mar...

Re: Grand Haven?!?!?!?

Great pictures. Thanks. It's funny how one can quickly identify Rev flyers by looking at their backside. And single line fliers by looking at their kites. I see Sam's stack, Darryle Waters' pilot and Penguin, etc.. But, I don't recognize the three Delta Conyne kites. What do you know about them or t...

Re: Hang-em High Fabrics

Bonnie was the only retail source for Icarex. Now that her business is in limbo, you need to contact Jon at Kites and Fun Things in Plymouth, Michigan. Jon is THE ONLY importer of Icarex into the USA. He uses the material to make kites for sale, but if you're polite, he will generally sell some. You...

Re: Hang-em High Fabrics

During one of the fall hurricanes that hit the coast in 2011, Bonnie's house was destroyed and her shop was severely damaged. She went off line at that time. I haven't seen any posting on any kite website that says she's back in business. Sorry ... I'd like to order some more stuff from her also. Ch...

You might want to check with Jynx as to how she views the "flower girl" responsibility. Flower girl had a different meaning during her youth!!!

Awesome. Any recommendations on where to stay (other than the generic web sites)? I've got a place in mind, but it's a few miles north of town. If you don't want to put it in the thread, send me a PM. It will be good to see you there . . . . I might bring some big kites too (if I can get Jynx to dr...

Re: WSIKF 2013: August 19-25, 2013

We'll be there ... all arrangements have been made. We first went three years ago. Theresa (The Kite Shoppe) had a last minute opportunity on a suite in one of the hotels. Grabbed it within two hours of it being posted, booked our flights and were off. Had a great time ... although the festival is s...

Re: The highest flier?

Wanna say I'm not offended by anybody's opinion or what people think of what we should do, and what I should do. Still the question is which Delta or any kite do you think can fly that High, and why? Bob Moore uses a DT Delta for his altitude attempts. You might check out this page on his website. ...

If you're really excited about high flying kites, you might be interested in reading Bob Moore's altitude attempts. Here's a brief thread on his 2012 attempt and here is his official web site. It's interesting to note that Bob has to have special permission to fly at high altitudes ... and, he's fly...

Re: 2nd Annual IKE Retreat! Sept 29-30

Well, if we're planning for next year already, how about bumping it up a little bit to the 21st and 22nd of September. That's guessing that the Quad Cities kite festival will not find another James Patten to organize it ... it'll go the way of other small, but really neat festivals. Oh yes, the bump...

Re: Sunday Quick fly??

Beautiful day for flying kites!!! Tony and I had enough kites in the air during the afternoon to have an official festival. Kites Over Washington (KOW) seems kind of fitting for the festival name ... seeing as how Washington is in the middle of farmland. Here's a pic of how the field/sky looked: Sun...

Re: Sunday Quick fly??

Tony K and I are getting together at the Washington flying field on Sunday to fly SLKs. The weeds are a little too high right now for flying sport kites.
