Re: 2ND ANNUAL KITE FEST

Same location as last year? Yep, the web page says, "the same place as last year." Since I didn't attend last year, I had to call them for directions. It's actually on Beiderbeck Dr, but use this address in your GPS or map search: 300 South Marquette St Davenport, IA 52802 Cheers, Tom

Draftnik,

Can't make it to DeKalb, but would like four of the patches. I've sent you a PM in hopes we can make other arrangements.

Re: Club Fly, Saturday September 6

LOOKED LIKE ALOT OF FUN ... Shawn, It was a great day to practice your "light wind technique" and "hanger flying". I got a chance to try out Ken's SUL kite ... seems like it has a larger "up" button than my B-series ... hmmm. Also got to fly Mike's 20th Anniversary kit...

Re: Want An IKE T-Shirt?

Okay, one last argument for red hats:

Red hats would add to the "Papa Smurf" nick name that Mike picked up in England. Wonder what he would look like in red tights to match?

Re: 2008: Sept. 14, Dekalb Kite Festival, Dekalb, IL

How about a roll call of who is going to this festival? Unfortunately, there's two festivals on the same day and I'll be at the Mots festival. I'd appreciate someone posting a report and photos of this festival after it's over. It's nice to have in the archives. Good winds! I've got grandkid number...

Re: Want An IKE T-Shirt?

A BASEBALL CAP BLACK WITH THE IKE LOGO EMBROIDERED ON IT MIGHT LOOK NICE Shawn, I was thinking of standardizing on red hats that would match the T-shirts ... in the fall and winter seasons the hats would still show up when folks are wearing coats. That could be a form of showing IKE's participation...

Re: Want An IKE T-Shirt?

What kind of hat would you like? The obvious answer is: One that makes me look slim, handsome, young and ... Well, you get the idea ... If I remember correctly, the 180GO hats are embroidered. That would mean that folks could order a baseball hat, a safari hat or any red hat they have in stock ... ...

Re: Kites Over Lake Michigan

This was one of the best festivals of the year! Mike S. I'm beginning to see a trend here. When I show up the wind is too high ... or the wind is too low ... or it rains like crazy. Kite flying seems a lot like fishing; "You should have been here last week ... they were really biting then.&quo...

Re: Short Quad Line Sets

Thanks for the input guys. I made a set of 50 foot lines last night and tried them out this morning. The winds were right around two miles per hour most of the time I was flying with my B-series and 2 wraps. Yep, I bought an inexpensive wind meter so I could learn what the different wind speeds feel...

Re: Short Quad Line Sets

Okay, it's been almost two years since this topic was discussed ... time for some new life. What experience have you had with short lines on Revs? It was just recently suggested to me that 50 foot line sets are great for light wind conditions ... and, I've read where it gives a whole new feel to the...

Re: Lynn's Basket Weave "Rev"

Jim,

I looks like the kite that Lynn is holding does not have vented stars ... the original one we watched being made had vented stars. Did she make one kite with vented stars and one with non-vented stars?

Ann deserves high praise for her announcing. She did all of the stuff that you expect of announcers, but never seem to experience. She was clear, consistent, informative, accurate and sprinkled in a little humor now and again.

Thanks Ann, you did a great job!

I don't know if a good time was had by all, but Sunday was a blast for me. Big Mike, Little Mike and Ken all helped me with my home work for the next few weeks. What a rush it is when your rhythm is just right and the kite spins around it's central axis ... and that's actually what you're trying to ...

We'll still be in the upper penisula of Michigan on Saturday, so will miss flying with you guys.

That picture really is amazing ... if you look closely in the mid-left side, you'll see an excavator working on the road ... sure hope it's a Caterpillar machine!
