Re: Quicky Club Fly, Sat Nov 1

I'm game! The forecast of 10 mph winds look good ... temps in the high 50's ... nice!

Besides, after flying in the cold today, I came home and got out my winter weight clothes. I might look like Charlie Brown, but warmth before fashion is my mantra.

Cheers,
Tom

Re: Did You Fly Today? - 26 October

Out again today (Monday) and the winds were pretty consistent at 15 to 20 mph ... sure didn't have to worry about my lines going slack. In fact, I'm sure all the stretching has been taken care of on the 120 foot line set. The wind window on 120 foot lines with the higher winds is awesome. Probably a...

Did You Fly Today? - 26 October

Finally had a legitimate need for a vented sail with 4-wrap rods. The Peoria weather station was reporting winds of 24 mph with gusts to 32 mph when I headed out. Checked my chart and it said 4-wraps are good to 30 mph. After flying for three hours and with the winds picking up, I decided that the b...

Re: Power Kite Jump

Oh yes, that's Jessie Richman. It's claimed that his 22 second jump is the longest controlled jump on record. I'm a little too old - and maybe a little too heavy - for the kite jumping end of our sport. Looks neat though.

Tom

Re: Hello, I'm New To Club And Relatively New To Flying

Could you make a recruiting run up north too? Jeff, My only recruitment technique is to fly for hours alongside a major roadway. Everyone expects to see kites at the beach, but no one expects to see kites bobbing up and down along the roadway. It's neat to see folks stop and take the time to watch ...

Re: Hello, I'm New To Club And Relatively New To Flying

Where do you fly? Would it be a good location for a club fly? The spot along Route 24 would be too crowded ... it's the front yard of the Crossroads Church. I fly on the middle school grounds on Sunday ... that spot is two baseball diamonds and two soccer fields plus a little extra space. I'll see ...

Yesterday, Jo Ann made the apple salad that Chris brought to the picnic. If that's representative of the rest of the recipes, you might be onto something ... it was pretty good!

Who is that flying in the July picture? The camera perspective certainly makes him look small.

Re: Hello, I'm New To Club And Relatively New To Flying

Also, Jim and I were flying yesterday and another kite flyer stopped to talk. Seems he has some dual line kites and a Rev I kite. We traded e-mail addresses so I'll be working on one more club member in the middle of Illinois.

Re: Hello, I'm New To Club And Relatively New To Flying

just saying hi One of the places where I fly is right alongside Illinois Route 24 where traffic is often times very heavy. About a month ago Jim saw me flying and stopped to chat about the kites he owns ... seems he's had a rev 1.5 with an SLE frame set for several years. Since then he's added an S...

Re: Nice Wind Today!

Hope some of you were able to get out and fly today too. After yesterday's lack of wind for the picnic, today had to go the other way for most of the early day. The winds averaged 18 mph with gusts to the mid-twenties for most of the early afternoon here in the Peoria area. At little after two the ...

We also flew near the restaurant which a bit up the hill, maybe 300' from the falls. The wind there was a little less shifty, but it would still do a 180 and blow misty falls rain down on us. Someone posted a bit of youtube video and you can get some idea of what it was like. Mike, Cool pics and co...

Re: Cat Got EVERYBODIES Tongue???!!

Scott Holgorsen is a kite flyer/photographer that we met at the Davenport festival. He was kind enough to send me some of the pictures he took. Can't afford the time to take my eyes off the trees in the backyard. The wind seem to have disappeared ... is that normal for this time of year here in the Midwest?
