Killip Kite

The large kites are great, but they take a lot of work to set up, watch and then take down. I find myself flying a mini-mock quite often because it's easy to set up and fly ... plus, it packs into such a small space that it's almost always in the Jeep. Thus, it became obvious that a kite somewhere b...

Re: New to the site!

Welcome to the forum and to the club.

You might want to PM one of our members (AhMayzon) who lives in the St Louis area. Although she is a member of IKE, she also participates in a second club that supports activities around the St Louis area.

Cheers,
Tom

U-MAKE 2013

Those of you who enjoy making kites might want to put this on your calender for next spring. I attended last year's class and had a blast. Came away with a new kite bag, several inflatable dolphins and lots of good info. If you were at Grand Haven this year, you might have seen the pod of dolphins f...

Re: Uneven lines

Since spectra is a plastic, what you're seeing is really "creep" ... but, stretch will do for discussion purposes. Brand new line will stretch, and take a permanent set, somewhere in the neighborhood of 2%. That's over two feet of permanent deformation, for a 120 ft line set ... or four fe...

Re: GONNA BE IN TOWN...............

It is a blast there. Very laid back. Lots and lots of beach on which to fly. Good winds. Great chance to fly Revs in amongst the show kites.

Tried to talk Ben into it for this year ... maybe you'll be better at talking Ben into coming.

Re: GONNA BE IN TOWN...............

Sorry Rich, I'll be at the Cabo International Kite Fiesta down in San Jose del Cabo. You'll notice that it's not a festival, but a fiesta ... kind of explains how laid back the guys are for this get together. You and Ben would fit in quite well.

Yep, forgot to highlight thekitesite if you're going to buy already built. Thanks for the nudge.

Actually, you might try to talk him out of a 75sqft Bull Dog kit that is still in the box!!!!

Re: Looking for a good sled/

If you want to build your own kite, there are numerous plans available. Check here for sleds, or here for foils. Of the foil plans, I'd recommend the Mini-Mock (built two), the Kevin Nichel's flow form, the Peter Lynn Pilot or the FF04a. I've listed the recommendations in order of difficulty to buil...

Re: Wind Map

Place the cursor over the spot where your city is located and left click the mouse a few times. You might have to drag the picture to center the area you're trying to zoom. Peoria shows up, but sorry, Charleston doesn't. Still can't figure out how to back out ... short of re-clicking on the bookmark...

Re: Frayed bridle damage

Four points: 1) Take pictures or draw a sketch of the assembly of the bridle ... two vertical pieces, one horizontal piece, the small center loop. Or, count on pulling out one of your other kites to compare to. You're certain to make a mistake otherwise. 2) The center loop is disposable ... only a f...

Re: Anybody getting out there?

... OK, yes it had just pushed in. I've got it out. Now I'm ready for the instructions on how to keep this from happening again. =) Good question Mike ... yep, the ferrule is stronger than the rod, so being pushed in was/is the most likely problem. Check the rest of the ferrules on your various kit...

Re: Anybody getting out there?

The broken, unglued piece should come out easily. Don't use a screw 'cuz that might expand the ferrule. An expanding ferrule will bind it in place, making extraction harder, and possibly damaging the rod. Use a wooden dowel that will fit in the open end to push the broken piece out. As to the glued ...

Re: Cabo San Lucas Kite Fiesta

This is the third year for this festival to be held in Cabo San Lucas. We went the first year on a whim and had a blast. Thus, we also went last year and have reservations again for this year. It's not really a festival ... more like Kite Party on steroids!!! Last year it was about 200 feet from our...

David, you need to e-mail Duane and warn him that Mike will be looking for space on his dance card.

Doesn't Jynx have a picture of that event?
