Would it work to hook up a webcam which already has a live image if you hook it up to the usb port on your computer. Flatbed scanner with hackable interface? Look what I just found!! Mike How close you can get to real-time would be interesting to work out. Now that is too fast for an arduino but you could capture one coloum of pixels per frame or even part of a coloum.
