Kite Flying in Charleston, SC

My wife and I were kiting in Charleston SC. We had the best wind conditions we have ever experienced. The wind was so smooth and consistent. We flew both the Rev and the Snapshot. The following are some pics.

Re: How do you wind your lines?

Straight winding. It is just easier/faster to wind/unwind. When my wife winds up the line she uses a figure 8. I am thrown off for a quick second when it is time to unwind it. No big shakes though, keeps me on my toes.

I think it depends on you since you are the visitor. What are your plans?

Oh forgot to mention, I will be there. Will bring Mark since I know he loves the cold wind ;-). Mark? Mark? Are you There?

Re: My First Outdoor, Short Line, Rev Fly

The camera is really cool! I hope you will be bringing it next weekend. Try having the camera be set close to you. You can then see your hand movements and the immediate effects it has on the kite. I think it would be a great training aid. Where did you get the kite? I don't see it in their availabl...

I won't be able to fly on Friday, cleaning up from Thanksgiving, but I think I should be able to get out Saturday or Sunday.

Well you hit my two favorite games. Our family has both, however the Ticket To Ride is the Marklin edition, where you connect cities in Germany. A different twist than the US.

Re: October club fly?

I flew yesterday with a standard (non-vented) and it was fine. The Rev is rated to 25 mph winds. I just adjusted what knot I used on my handle. All the way out on top and actually used the inside knot on the bottom. Basically the most brake I could have. It worked fine. Gave me another feel for the ...

Re: October club fly?

I am going to try for Busse Woods today. I flew there yesterday for a couple of hours. One heck of a lot of wind, but it was fun. It looks like from 2-4 should be the best wind today.

Re: How quick does a new sail stretch?

Swannie, I don't think the sail has stretched, I think the bungy cord was not taught to start with. I have a B series that I got this year and had to tighten the bungies after a few flights. I am learning also and did not know, Mark pointed it out to me that the kite fluttered too much. I think they...

Re: Quick fly

Mark, checked my lines yesterday and the top lines were stretched about 2 1/2 inches longer than the bottom lines. Got everything evened out, so we will see if my pivot turns improve. I also rolled 2 knots on the handle sides while I was at it.

Re: Wind meter/anemometer ... any value?

For me, I use Weatherbug. I selected a High School near me that is a Weatherbug location. I like that it shows the direction on a wind compass along with the speed. It updates every minute so you can tell if the wind is steady or gusty.
