I'd like to go to Monee because it was very nice... picturesque and all. They also have paddle-boats there that you can rent if you get sick of flying kites.

Re: Kites And Birds Question

Cool chart! I hate eating my relatives! One of the fossils that i have is of a number of Haikouella; they were very primitive, fish-like animals, probable chordates and ancestor to vertebrates. They are from the early cambrian period, around 525 million years ago. They had a discernible heart, gill ...

Re: Club Fly Saturday 4/2/11

It's considerably smaller. From what i remember, Governor's State had plenty of room where we were. Monee is small, but if a lot of the public do not fly, it might be OK. If a fair number of the public shows up to fly... it's going to be crowded. Monee is a very cool, picturesque spot and would be p...

Re: Kites And Birds Question

I went back to the computer and found this: The evolution of mammals within the synapsid lineage (mammal-like-reptiles) was a gradual process that took approximately 70 million years, beginning in the mid-Permian. By the mid-Triassic, there were many species that looked like mammals, and the first ...

Re: Kites And Birds Question

It's triassic for both, i think, in terms of mammals and dinosaurs; proto-birds were later, but their predecessors were still dinosaurs. I still think that they were first, though, because what many paleontologists called the first mammals was quite a stretch.

Re: Club Fly Saturday 4/2/11

This coming Saturday looks to be terrible, weather wise; so i'm all for cancelling that.

Monee is nice; but it's not a big field by any means. Actually, it's quite a small flying area, if any substantial number of folks show up.

Re: Kites And Birds Question

Birds are descendants from dinosaurs (they actually are dinosaurs)... and they had the ground first too. They dominated us mammals long enough; i'm flying my kites! Get the H out of my way! (What i like about kites is that they don't crap at you while you are looking up... and, from a cage in t...

Re: Kites And Birds Question

There are, of course, those kites that are painted and shaped to look like birds. I think that the smaller dual line kites are more like swallows (with a lot of maneuverability); whereas the large dualies are more like the gliding birds that soar steadily... like the condors or turkey vultures. No k...

Re: Earth Day Kite Festivals

I'll come for the Monee fest. I was there last year and it was very nice. It's a rather small area, but it's very beautiful there (and the people who run the place are very nice). :mrblue:

Re: Nephew In Top Shot Show

Thanks John!... i'll pass on your congrats to Joe. It sure is weird seeing him on television (for the commercials advertising the show). It'll be very cool to see him on television when the show finally airs. His family is really into archery and guns a whole lot. His sister, Angie, who is a good sh...

Nephew In Top Shot Show

My nephew, Joe Serafini, will be in the show Top Shot, on the History Channel on February 8th at 9:00PM Central time. The prize is $100,000... but it's quite an honor just to get to be one of the contestants on the show (which is quite an accomplishment in itself)! He can't tell anyone (including fa...

3 New Videos

Three separate videos (i.e., two ventriloquism ones... that is: with the family and at Fox Developmental Center)... and, of course, one of old Mr. Froggy. Mr. Froggy was an adroit and relatively smart amphibian who would repeatedly return to the same window sill of our home every day... but would my...

Merry Christmas!

All i want for Christmas is spring and summer! It's sure pretty outside! The trees are all covered in white beauty. But i'm not looking to see how much the branches are moving. from E. E. Cummings: all ignorance toboggans into know and trudges up to ignorance again: but winter's not forever,...
