Some of these fragments appeared to be from the heads of the Virgin and the Child, and a special commission was created to confirm their identification. Both criticisms thus form a pair of tweezers, acting in opposing directions, but collaborating towards the same puipose. One difference is that a philosophical discourse on principles can proceed deductively, whereas a legal discourse on principles has to be linked to the positive legal material made up of legal provisions and judicial decisions; it is hermeneutical and refers to the law in force.
