Temple Texas Family PhotographerHello Bluebonnets! Temple Texas Family Photographer »
Mommy and Me sessions are some of my favorite as a Temple Texas family photographer. I love when I can help a busy Mama get away for a little bit and just love on her baby. It’s so easy as mothers to get caught up in all the everyday tasks of life. We sometimes forget to simply be in the moment and have fun with our kids. Along with all the many things that are amazing about motherhood, it can also be hard at times. And it’s okay to admit we might need a break from the million loads of laundry that get washed, maybe folded, and seldom put away in a timely fashion (just me??). It’s okay to not have it all together all the time, or be Super Boss Babe who manages to balance the world on her shoulders.
These sessions are all about Mommy and child, and the special bond that only they share. They highlight the love between the two. And it certainly doesn’t hurt to have a gorgeous field of bluebonnets as your backdrop. Check out this sweet Mama and baby girl. How adorable are they?!

« Cant forget the Bluebonnets!
Starting school for the very first time is exciting, yet can also be very daunting and stressful for the little one (and the parents!) Takahiro has always been a very nervous kid and whenever he starts something new, his anxiety level is always through the roof! Weve tried signing him up to several activities in the past (dancing, gymnastics, karate and soccer) and he always ends up crying every single class and holding on to my leg the whole time and not participating, no matter how much the teacher or I tried coaxing him to join in on the fun. Its always a MAJOR struggle! (and a total waste of money! haha)
With his first day of school around the corner, I knew I had to do something to make this momentous event the least stress inducing for everyone. The following are the two BEST (and easiest) tips I have received from friends and they totally work! Takahiro now seems excited and wayyyyy less apprehensive about starting school!
GET THEM INVOLVED
If your kids enjoy picking out their own clothes, then take them shopping and let them pick out a few outfits that they can only start wearing once school starts. Thatll give them something to look forward to and associate the first day to some excitement instead of fear. Neither of my boys, however, get excited over clothes, so what I did was let Takahiro chose other fun things like, his school bag, lunch box, pencil-case and the design of his labels. (If youre wondering, he chose Paw Patrol for his school bag and lunch box!of course!).
PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!
Practice EVERYTHING! Kids feel safe when they know what to expect, so practice the morning routine and practice getting to school. If you walk or drive your kids to school, then show them the route and once at the school, let them know at which entrance you will be leaving them with their teacher. If your kids are taking the school bus, then try to explain to them what to do once they get inside the school bus. A 5-year-old taking the school bus for the very first time on his own will need to be told EXACTLY what to do. Let them know that they need to choose a seat once they get on the bus and that they may have to sit next to another little friend. You can even suggest they sit close to the driver if they feel more comfortable next to an adult. Prepare them for the conversation that they may have with new friends. Role-play at home, so that they feel comfortable and prepared! I spent a lot of time talking to Takahiro about what to expect at school. We covered topics like: how to introduce himself to new friends, in which order to eat his lunch and HOW to open his lunch box and containers (yes, trust me, this can be confusing for a 5-year-old!) and what to do when he needs to use the bathroom (They may be too timid and too scared to ask to go to the bathroom, so teach them that its OK to use the bathroom whenever they need to!)
With Takahiros anxiety at bay, I also needed to address my own mom anxiety with having my first baby start school! Will he make friends? Will he be able to keep up with the class material now that hell be attending an all French school? Will he be able to concentrate in class? Takahiros daycare educator has mentioned to us that hes had trouble listening and concentrating and this was one thing that worried me the most. I do feel better knowing that there are wonderful initiatives like the On the Ball Program brought to us by the National Bank of Canada, who collect used tennis balls to be placed on the bottom of chair legs in order to help reduce classroom noise and provide students with a quieter and more learning-friendly environment. The noise in classrooms can be quite bothersome and can affect concentration, but its crazy how something as simple as recycling used tennis balls can help our little ones learn more effectively!
Some fun facts about the program:
This year, the On the Ball program has set their target at distributing a total of , tennis balls in Quebec and Ontario. If you wish to donate, please visit this list of participating clubs to know where to drop off your used tennis balls.
